uhh thats fucking stupid.

products drop price all the time. everyone knows it.

What's fucking stupid is cutting prices by 30% two months after release and pissing off your most loyal customers. And yes, they will be sued for making a profit. Wait and see. Remember, in US you can be sued for any reason, anytime.

Would be cool if you could stream from your computer (anyone elses iPod, network, etc)
to the iPod Touch. You could listen or watch movies around your house, off someones open
wi-fi network, or nearby iPods : ) Is that do-able?

What can they sue about?

They can sue, sure. Some guy in prison recently sued michael vick, george bush, the magna carta....but they were thrown out. As this case would be, too.

You can't sue a company for lowering its launch price point. I think its brilliant. People like me that scoffed at the idea of $600 for an iphone now no longer think its so bad a deal.

i think that the 8gb iphone @ $400 is going to cannibalize 8gb ipod touch sales and perhaps even the 16bg ones too. at this price even i'm a bit interested (i'm still using my 4 yr old 3rd gen 15 gb ipod).

i'm currently 10 months into a cingular/att contract w/o a data plan. would i be able to pop in my SIM card and get going on the iphone or will i be forced to add on a $20 data plan?

I'm sure a slick lawyer can find a definition that'll fit. I'm sure any reasonable judge will throw it out of court, as they should. The real damage will come from alienating many if not most hardcore fans and early adopters.

It was hacked last week, full software unlock IIRC.

And yes you can use it with T-Mobile or whoever you please, you only lose the visual voicemail or whatever TF it's called.

Wow that sucks. The Touch is going to be overpriced, just like the iphone. $300 for 8gb and $400 for 16gb. If that had been 80gb and 160gb I'd be all over it.

16gb of flash storage is pretty good, better battery life and not fragile like HDD units makes it teh winnar for me.

16 gigs is crap especially seeing as it plays videos

It isn't crap for most people. I'm willing to bet that 95% of people who have ipods dont use more than a couple gigs of storage on them.

I have a 40 gig harddrive on my laptop (the only computer I currently have), and I am still only using 25 gigs of storage on it after 3 years of owning it.

I haven't filled my 4GB Nano yet. I see no reason to loads albums worth of crap when I only like particular songs.

same here

well played by Apple. They new the iPhone would sell like crazy as soon as it came out, regardless of the asking price. So why not rape the customers at first, then after the initial rush, drop the price to induce further sales? Greatest marketing scheme ever, that's how Apple operates too. Half the reason I don't own any of their products. The other half is they suck. My Zune has better audio quality (although iRiver tends to offer the greatest AQ, that and some of the Creative products). Video on it also destroys Apple's offerings.

???

The iphone still has PHONE capabilities, the touch doesn't. I don't see what's so funny? Some people want the all in one type deal.

the iPhone got a price drop to $399 for the 8gb model, and dropped the 4gb model. That's what he was referring to, doesn't really have anything to do with the iPod Touch.

Ah! My bad. Well then...I concur, "well played by Apple."

I hate apple's new ipods. I still go the 4gb mini, and it's the best one they ever made. Indestructible and has everything you need and nothing you don't.
I don't know what this obsession with watching video in 320x240 on a 2 inch screen is. I don't want to pay for a damn color screen to listen to music. Give me more memory or lower price instead. I don't want a larger device for video that I don't plan on watching. Don't get me wrong, I am not against them making video capable iPods, but they should make a simple music player for those who want it too, and the only one they have left now is the shuffle, and that one is a bit too bare bones. So basically, you either get a video player or no screen at all, nothing in between. I may pick up the first gen nano though if they go on sale after being discontinued.

If everyone used ATT the iphone would cannibalize the ipod touch.

But if you're don't use ATT, there's no point in buying the iphone.

I have verizon. why would I pay extra 100 dollars for phone feature that's worthless to me.

OK enough with the smart-ass Verizon comments. Everyone in this thread knows the iPhone is GSM.

And according to phonescoop the iphone is quad band.

sounds like the 2nd gen nano would be for you. it's just like the mini except with a color screen and, uh, mini-er

Yes, it has been, but I'd wait for the upcoming iPhone firmware update to see if it cripples the current SIM unlock before plunking down $50.00 for it.

I was disappointed there was no Beatles announcement.

I wonder if the iPod touch can be hacked in the same way as the iPhone to have native apps on it.
