Personally, I can't stand other people pumping gas into my car. I accidentally parked at a Full Service pump once, and when I reached for the pump the attendant said he had to do it. So I got back in my car and drove to the self-service pump.

Yea, its a riot. I just moved to NC recently, and I was in shock when I saw both beer and wine sold in the grocery stores, even beer at gas stations.

It really is sad. I had to teach my gf in college how to pump gas....she was from NJ. Its not that complicated.

Er. Wtf? People don't know how to pump their own gas? That's just stupid. I knew how to pump gas years before I even got my learner's permit.

I wouldn't want someone else to pump gas into my car either. It just seems.. well, weird.

You'd either have to set aside a few pumps for Full Service, or find a way for the customer to request full service without getting out of their car. You'd end up with a few attendants not doing anything some of the time. Then you'd be wasting money and gas prices would go up.

Hey toolboxes, who cares if its easy to pump one's own gas? I do it whenever I'm out of state. But guess what fvcksticks, having someone pump my gas for me is convenient.

I guess the NJ legislators are onto something about their residents being too stupid to pump their own gas. Or.....is it that they have made the people of NJ stupid with their nannystating?

I may be wrong about this, but don't most pumps have instructions on them? Usually 3 or 4 steps. 1) Select payment method, 2) Remove Nozzle, 3) Select fuel grade, begin fueling. Something along those lines?

And what wrong container are they going to put the gas into? The sewer tank on a motor home?

It is NJ, take that into account.

Gas station attendents are completely useless, I can pump my own gas. It's simply a case of government trying to keep some people in their current useless jobs via artificial means where otherwise market forces would have done away with them years ago.

Having 100% full service means even MORE attendants potentially not doing anything.

The ignorance of people in this thread is amazing. I have lived in New Jersey since I was 3, and never had to pump my own gas. I am sure I could figure out how to use a gas pump, but I have never had to. I am 21 now, and it would be stupid for me to say I know how to use a gas pump when I have never done so, but I am sure it can't be that hard.

Edit: I am not saying I am against self serve, I think it would be a great idea. There is something to be said for only 2 states being self serve...

Easiest way to do it is set aside pumps for full service. You pull up to that pump; the attendant automatically knows you want full service. I know there would be some attendants not doing anything sometimes but how is that different than the current full service? Gas stations aren't always busy.

Well I live in South Jersey. For those who don't know jersey we are actually 2 states. North Jersey and South Jersey. North jersey is our smelly "want-a-be NY" part. South jersey is the complete opposite. That settled and explained.

I'm proud to say I don't have to pump my own gas..Do you know how crazy it would get in jersey if everyone had to do it themselves! Jesus man it'd be chaos on the streets. I can't imagine my grandmother or frickin mom pumping her own gas. My mom makes ever transaction or process the longest ever, she cares 0 about if others are waiting..

It really makes sense in jersey cause we are the most densely populated state. Our gas stations are over crowded as it is when people actually pump it for you and do it quickly. I for one have pumped my own gas many times in PA, cause I work there, and it does get frickin insane when the person infront of you is taking their good old time filling up (especially the old ladies). Even worse, the old people don't' like to carry credit, so they have to walk in-side and pay while I'M still waiting behind them!!! If you are complaining about that extra little they put into the tank to TOP it, that is annoying, but if I don't give them an exact dollar amount I'll get out before it's done and stop + take it out myself.

Also, when Skiing in PA I had to pump my gas in like 12 inches of snow and it was the biggest bitch...when in Jersey I would just laugh at the dood standing out there pumping the gas for me?

My conclusion...other states are jealous, very jealous. On those 90 degree days...i'm chilling with my AC on...on those Sub-Zero days...i'm chilling in the car with my heater on..have fun doing it yourself. Btw, gas is cheaper in NJ than PA. And, they have to self-serve...makes no sense.
