I'm proud to say I don't have to pump my own gas..Do you know how crazy it would get in jersey if everyone had to do it themselves! Jesus man it'd be chaos on the streets. I can't imagine my grandmother or frickin mom pumping her own gas. My mom makes ever transaction or process the longest ever, she cares 0 about if others are waiting..

It really makes sense in jersey cause we are the most densely populated state. Our gas stations are over crowded as it is when people actually pump it for you and do it quickly. I for one have pumped my own gas many times in PA, cause I work there, and it does get frickin insane when the person infront of you is taking their good old time filling up (especially the old ladies). Even worse, the old people don't' like to carry credit, so they have to walk in-side and pay while I'M still waiting behind them!!! If you are complaining about that extra little they put into the tank to TOP it, that is annoying, but if I don't give them an exact dollar amount I'll get out before it's done and stop + take it out myself.

Also, when Skiing in PA I had to pump my gas in like 12 inches of snow and it was the biggest bitch...when in Jersey I would just laugh at the dood standing out there pumping the gas for me?

My conclusion...other states are jealous, very jealous. On those 90 degree days...i'm chilling with my AC on...on those Sub-Zero days...i'm chilling in the car with my heater on..have fun doing it yourself. Btw, gas is cheaper in NJ than PA. And, they have to self-serve...makes no sense.
You got atleast one thing right. North Jersey and South Jersey are infact two seperate states.

That's the way it used to be in Maryland. Now I don't know of ANY stations that have full-service pumps near me. The pumps somtimes have handicapped symbol signs indicating that if you need assistance, you should honk your horn. I've never seen that done, though. Besides, who is going to come out and pump the gas, the person behind the snack counter?

heh my father-in-law is disabled. he went to one place and honked. the guy got over the loudspeaker and told him to go somplace else they didnt pander to criples. on the pump next to him was a lawyer. the guy went over to my FIL and talked to him then went inside and talked to the manager. my FIL ended up with $100 gift card for gas.

Pretty much, and the rest just reinforces why most residents of NJ are too stupid to pump their own gas. It is amazing that it works everywhere else in the world for the most part.

If you can explain why we are too stupid please do....I for one see it as smart to get someone else to do it for you? And provide jobs to people? It's not that I don't know how...it's that I've done both and sitting in your car while someone else does it, is much more pleasing.

porterror1, you're a stupid. Sure, North Jersey wants to be NY, but didn't it ever occur to you that South Jersey just wants to be Philly? Admit it because its true, and you KNOW its true deep down inside you. Also, you think full service is FASTER??? You've gotta be kidding. As someone who lives close enough to the PA/NJ border to get gas often enough on both sides, I can ASSURE you it is much, much faster to have self-service, particularly at busy gas stations. Have you ever SEEN the lines on the AC Expressway?? Absurd, especially considering the highway isn't THAT busy.

Wrong, I've seen plenty of stupid Jerseyites that come to PA and can't fathom the physics required to pump gas. Friends of mine have looked at the pump with a blank stare for what seems like hours before I took over the process for them.

Goddamn those fatties.

So this guy is from Drexel eh...I thought I recognized that poor, uninformed "jersey is great despite the fact that I leave it for my educational and occupational needs" attitude.

Not odd at all. Philadelphia is what we call a "major city". Fifth largest in the country the last time I checked. Now, amazing as this might seem, gas prices tend to be higher in these cities! Crazy. If you travel outside the city, you'll find gas prices are much lower. In fact, back where I grew up (about 50 NW miles from Philly), gas is actually usually about 5-10 cents cheaper than Jersey. Jersey doesn't have any real cities to speak of, so they don't understand this phenomenon.

Like philly? Dood we have trees in South jersey and not bums on every corner. And btw, stay off our shore and casinos punk. Cause if I see another PA driver on the AC Expressway I'm going to scream. Cause you punks make fun of our state so much, but your probably in it during the summer time more than anything. Frickin Wildwood, NJ is Philly capital. I can't stand hypocrite states who mock other ones, but spend most their vacation and weekends in the state they mock....go pump your own gas and pay more for your gas while your doing it. O, and dont' even get me started on your Philly people coming over to jersey to evade the liquer prices + tax in PA either...

Wow, your communication skills just dropped about 30%.

Jersey shores suck. Only reason anyone from PA goes there is geographical convenience. And hey, I'll make a deal with you, since you Jerseyites ALWAYS use that arguement: I'll gladly stop using your shores for my vacations, if you stop using my cities for your jobs & education. Plus, stop watching our sports teams. Maybe the NFL will give Camden a team instead of LA.

Fair deal?

Dood, I went to drexel too...What education...haha. Drexel Shaft style. Jobs, its a big city it's where big business resides it's a price we have to pay for money. But, i drop a tip to your bums now and then. Btw, can you tell the rest of the PA residents to stay off our shores..I bet atlantic city will clean up quick.

I'm still getting over a Drexel guy said something about "the education we get in Philly".

I live in VA and visit my sister in OR several times a year. It feels strange if you're used to pumping the gas yourself. The biggest disadvantage, in my opinion, would be that because of full-service, most gas stations in OR are not 24/7. One time I had to fill up the rental car at 0:30 AM or so to return it at 5:00 AM at the airport since I had to catch an early flight. I drove around for almost half an hour to find a gas station that was open.

And all you 12-yr-old should drop the fight about Jersey vs surrounding states. It's irrelevant to the topic!!!

So wait.

You made the conscious decision to come to a Pennsylvania university, instead of opting for the wonders of a CCC education (yes, you have Princeton, but we have Penn), and now you're mocking it?

Its pretty simple really. You chose to come to PA for your education, and now you choose to come to PA for your occupation. Why? If its so inferior, why don't you just get a job in Jersey? Oh right, you don't have any, because you don't have cities. How can you possibly be knocking PA for having a city??? Yea, there are bums, comes with the territory. When Jersey gets a real city (no, Camden and Trendon do not count), maybe you'll understand that.

Back on topic, fulll service is slow & annoying, if you love it so much, be like a normal state where full service is an OPTION, and go to that pump.

I always laugh at PA, cause all they got is philly. That's it....and it's only like a small small fraction of their state. The rest is wilderness, amish, and hicks. Yet, they feel the need to mock jersey. I can concure on the jersey jokes, but please direct them to our ugly neighbor "north jersey".

As, toward the schooling. I was fooled!! But, at least I can admit afterwards it's bad education for the money you pay. I've had offers in jersey, but I'd rather work in Philly make more moeny and not pay your ****** city-wage tax...hah.

On-topic. In all honesty, alot of jobs would be lost and I don't know where else those people would get jobs. Where else can you get a job paying above minimum wage that the job duties include (turn on pump, enter price, put pump in, etc).

It's a horrible day in the US when folks have to pump their own gas...

I had no idea that full-service gas stations were so prevalent. Here in NC I've only seen one, maybe two..and those were Mom and Pop-type stations. I can remember as a child that I'd always jump out and pump our gas, I thought it was fun.

Have you heard of Pittsburgh? Last time I checked its larger than any city in Jersey, too. PA has plenty...all Jersey has is a sh!tty, dirty shore that people only come to because its the closest one.

As for the schooling, you're probably one of those losers thats whines about how much Drexel sucks despite the fact that it is a very good school, dare I say better than anything in Jersey except Princeton. Yea, its expensive, but who DOESN'T get a scholarship and grants here? Yes, you'd rather work in Philly because there are BETTER JOBS. That's what I'm saying dumbass, anyone could be a gas station attendant in Jersey, good jobs are on this side of the Delaware...

Where would those jobs be made up? Who knows, but you could ask the other 48 states how they do it.

If those other states had over 20,000 gas station attendents losing their jobs. And then found other jobs for them, then show me. For some people...sadly enough, this is all they know..

btw. pittsburg is not a city...it's a dump for trash.
