I would MUCH rather let someone else pump my gas. I like my warm (or cool), dry car thank you very much.

Yea that's what I always hear Jersey dumb-dumbs say, as they're waiting in line 5x as long as necessary to get their gas.
Well as an Oregonian, I can't speak for New Jersey, but I certainly have never had a problem here. The attendants are fast both coming to you when you pull in and finishing it off when the pump is done. While there's no doubt I could get it done a little faster, I'd shave off maybe 15-20 seconds at best most of the time, and given that I agree with Viper that it's much nicer to stay in your car and make someone else do the work.

Honestly I'm happy that NJ shot this down.

After reading this thread, I'm convinced that we should take down all instructions on how to pump gas on any pumps closer than 300 miles to NJ. Then they won't be able to get out at all.

Yeah pumping your own gas really sucks.............

Everytime I have to cross into Jersey I make sure I have a full tank so I can survive my round trip. I really want gas spilled all over the side of my car. Yes it happened both times I was dumb enough to get gas in Jersey.

Oh and PA liquor laws FTL. If your license is old and busted like mine and will not swipe into the reader, they will refuse business if they are busy and do not want to take the time to type everything into the computer.

10 years ago you wouldn't say someone would be flipping burgers at McDonalds when you wanted to insult them about their career prospects - you would say they'd be pumping gas.

Of course the civilized world now pumps their own gas. I think New Jersey should leave their stations as full service. That way they distinguish themselves even more for being a crappy place to go.

Whether I pump it myself or not, it takes just as long. In fact, the only time I've been in Oregon it took longer because the attendant took a couple minutes to come to my car and it took the guy forever and a day to run my debit card.

With pay at the pump, I can be in and out faster if I pump my own gas. Also, I can top off my car (the tank design on the Mustang is such that the pump shuts off about 1.5 gallons short of full and there's no way that some random attendant will know that, and even if I told them, they wouldn't put in the full amount).

The gas station is observeing her all the time. Finally he comes out and says, "Lady, either you must be a widow from Florida or lived your whole life in New Jercy"

Bam.
I don't get it. So they won't pump your gas even if you're old and/or handicapped? I'll keep full serve, thanks.
All stations are required to provide full service to handicapped persons. It's part of the ADA.

It was a damn fine place during the 4 years I lived there. Loved the Carnegie museums and the sports. Also, it had good, blue collar, people.

I love it when politicians make an idea sound so far-fetched that it's in fact completely infeasible, all the while ignoring that that very action takes place EVERYWHERE ELSE.

If only Oregon would do the same. I grew up across the river in WA state and I have always hated it that Oregon doesn't allow self-serve.

In a competitive market, a company with reduced costs can reduce prices and take marketshare away from competitors thereby increasing profits.

If you want your full service, just go to a full service pump. There is no reason that having a few self service pumps prevents you from paying that extra amount and getting to stay in your warm car.

Damn strait biatch. PA is limiting the Free Capital Market through controlling competition by forcing gas stations that may otherwise become partially self service to be full service.

Deeko, your posts are some of the dumbest that I've read on here. Even worse than the "California is the best/worst state" threads.

How can someone hold hostility against someone due to where they live, expecially when the state is this small? I live about 1 mile from Pennsylvania. I guess that makes me totally different than someone from PA.

People need to stop being so proud of their state. They're just living there at that moment, they didn't build it or do anything to make it nice. On the contrary, all I see them doing is spreading ill-will, which completely goes against the "people from my state are better" attitude.

curious as to what would happen if someone beat the attendant to the pump and wouldn't allow the attendant to hold the nozzle. would they get arrested?

Probably.

"For their safety", of course.

Well it's not going to change any time soon; proposals to change it have been on the ballots something like 6 times now, and it always fails by a good margin.

Never said PA was so great. Just that Jersey sucks and that PA is better.

Trust me lad, if you lived on the PA/Jersey border as I do, you'd be more than accustomed to this kind of debate. It stems from Jerseyites thinking Jersey is the greatest place in the world, and voicing that opinion at every turn.

Time and time again, we have voted against self-service stations in Oregon also.

There are Self Serve stations in New Jersey, just they are on Military Posts (Fort Dix and Fort Monmouth)..but the bad thing is that they charge about the same as what a full serve gas station does off post. So it defeats the whole point of having a self serve station.

I agree its not hard to learn how to fill your own car up, but if you can have someone else do it for you, why not? Its not like I'm paying a premium for it

The only reason it wont change is because of that.

LoL Self righteous pricks crying cuz they can't pump their own gas. Do you feel better about yourself knowing that you can pump your own gas ?

Why bother pumping your own gas when you dont need to ?
Faster pumping yourself ?
Do you realize how dense NJ is in terms of population ? It wouldn't matter if we pumped our own gas or not. It would most likely take about the same amount of time. Not to mention there are usually 2 -3 attendants at the gas stations I go to.
Also NJ gas prices are cheaper than a lot of the other states and it's full service.
So cry more about how much NJ sucks cuz you can't pump your own gas. LoL.

Other than that I think NJ's gas thing is full of doo doo.

Cell phones pose no risk while pumping gas, unless you're an idiot and can't talk on the phone and squeeze a handle at the same time.

It is even further ridiculous that you think it might not.

Do you think the service attendents work for free? Where do you think their pay comes from? A surcharge added to every gallon of gas sold.
