I've heard it all now. I never knew you couldn't pump your own gas in New Jersey. Sounds like a pretty screwed up state if you ask me. The majority of the stations around here (Michigan) have the "Pay at the Pump" option. Swipe your card, Fill her up and off you go.

Speedpass FTMFW!!

Geez, having people pump gas into my car against my will is just... creepy. It's like homeless guys that want money for washing your windshield.

We are the minority. But, when you live your entire life with people pumping your gas for you, its very normal. With the advent of "pay at the pump" it's becoming easier, but you still have those dam old ladies paying with their cash inside. i'm still not keen on the idea of freezing my ass off while I pump my gas and spilling frickin gas on my pants cause of the leaky ass pump.

btw. pittsburg is not a city...it's a dump for trash.

You're an idiot, have you been there? Its a very nice city..."nicer" than Philly. It also has over 300K people, which is more than any city in Jersey.

Keep your dirty shores, and stop coming here for school/work/sports. Sounds like a fair deal.

I've never spilled gas on myself or witnessed one of these "leaky ass pumps".

Please please, tell all your PA heads to stay off our shores..I'd be delighted to drive to our beaches without all your PA traffic. Plus our shores would clean up alot .

Bah. When your hands are freezing cold, your shoes 10 inch deep in snow and the gas station didn't clean their dam lot. I pray that PA had self-service in the poconos. I'd rather have Abdul run to my car fill it up, while i'm listening to some tunes in my heated car. Hey...it could be slightly slower...maybe. But, nothing beats dry shoes.

You're neglecting your part of the bargain. Turn in your degree and please report to CCC or Rutgers to get a new college education, too. Don't forget to quit your job while you're at it.

I like to get some gas on my fingers and then sniff my fingers. I couldn't do that in jersey.

Also, do jersey's folks have to go to the gas station to have the attendant fill up their weedwackers and other small engine machines that use gas? Surely, they can't be expected to fill them up themselves.

Every time I drive by the Oregon boarder I always see someone struggling to pump their gas on the california side.

I've always done the bucket fill-up myself for lawnmowers, but I'm sure there are some gas station attendents that find that offesive.

I wondered about that myself because gas station operators will regularly tell you they make far more off food and drinks than they do off gas. It'd be interesint to compare how much revenue station operators in New Jersey and Oregon get on in-store purchases versus the rest of the country.

You can barely find any self-service pumps around here anymore. There's a couple that still offer one pump that's full-service near my office. But that's just because it's an extremely old-money part of town that likes the fact that it looks like it's still living in 1955.

Me too. Not long ago I was at the gas station and some woman asked me how it worked? I looked at her like WTF what planet are you from? Then she explained she was from NJ and they weren't allowed to pump their own gas. I think I looked at her again like WTF?

Can you pump your own gas in NJ if you're a visitor from out of state, where you're intelligent enough to pump your own gas?

Don't want to get out of the car to pump gas? While is the population of this country getting lazy, but I gotta walk four steps over to the pump, I could die.... I don't think there's anything but selfservice gas stations around here (Minneapolis), but maybe they're more common else where? I have no problem pumping gas myself, and to my knowledge it doesnt really make u smell like gas afterwards unless ur spilling it on yourself. Also, how can you not know how to fill gas in your car. No one ever showed me and I figured it out just fine lol.

Safety wise maybe they could simply enforce no smoking and no cell phones better...

I don't think cell phones have ever caused a fire.

I assume you are talking about Mountain Brook. Believe it or not, but there's still a full service station in Pleasant Grove.

Self-service is a convenience that has led to drivers not wanting to pump gas themselves, thus never learning how-to. I agree this is dumb and I for one insisted when I got my liscense to learn how to pump gas + learn manual tarnsmission. Also, If it was such a bad thing, don't you think we'd be complaining in new jersey to "GIVE US BACK OUR RIGHTS TO PUMP OUR OWN GAS!!".

Yup. Mtn Brook. I've pulled into the full-service pump at the station near my office by mistake a couple of times. It always catches me off-guard when the attendant comes strolling up to my car.

I'm sure there's a few more, but I hadn't noticed any others around town recently. For some reason it seems like one in Vestavia might offer it. But I remember quite a few of them when I was younger. My best friend's mom (now that I think about it, I think she was from New Jersey) always used to use them. Even back then it felt odd though.

No, because Jerseyites have this mentality that Jersey is the greatest place in the universe, and thus anything that is a certain way in Jersey MUST be the best way to do it.

First time I pumped gas was when I was 14 or so w/ my parents. My dad told me to fill it up. Guess what, I filled it up without any trouble, just watching my parents do it for years. As for these leaks and spilling gas on yourself, I've never seen it and I don't think it's possible. Most pumps have a seal that needs to be made w/ the tank before you can pump.

My aunt/cousins live in NJ my aunt is crazy about not filling up her own tank. We were driving back from somewhere and were near the border but not on the NJ side. She started to pull into a gas station then said she would wait and get it on the NJ side so that she didn't have to fill it up herself. I was completely shocked.
