New Job

Tuesday I start my new job at Winco, it sounds really great. Employee benefits, paid sick and vacation after 3 months, company stock. I would say a pretty good job for a college student, I have a chance to pay into 401K, though I don't know if I should because I don't plan on working there my whole life.

Another good thing is your not counted as part or full time by the hours you work, but by your wage. Benefits and everything that I listed above apply to both full and part time employees.

I'm looking forward to it.

you can either roll the 401(k) over to an IRA when you leave or some places will even let you keep your money in place (but no new contributions) when you leave

Really? I thought that I had read once about a member saying he had left a bunch of 401k's behind at jobs he had left. So I was wondering if it was a good idea since I don't plan to retire with the company.

Always do the 401k up to the companys match.

As FoBoT said you can roll it over to a IRA or even to your new jobs 401k.

Def go into your company's 401k, at least to the company match even if you plan to leave the company. Like others have said, you can always rollover into a IRA if you leave the job. If the amt is over $5000, most of the time you can also leave it as it with the company. People choose to rollover in order to broaden their investment choices. So it will be up to you on what you want to do. The money is yours so you won't lose it. Worse thing to do would be cashing out before you retire.
