Anyone want to suggest which of these monitors is better? I'm talking about the Samsung 191t and the 172t. Let the comments begin....Aaannndd, begin!

The 172T is excellent. Never used the 191T. And don't forget the 181T (which I haven't used either).

If it means anything to you, it's easy to adjust the height of the 172T, and it's wall mountable. That said, I always keep the 172T fully extended, and I don't plan on wall-mounting it.

I think quaility on the two is pretty much equal so it basically comes down to size. I would go for the 191t.

The 172T is an excellent monitor. We will be posting a review about it in a few days. the 191T is only the first revision on the 19" series, while the 172T is the second revision. You will not be dissapointed with either of these monitors. Just to put things in perspective though, I have both from reviews we did here, and the 172T is my current monitor =)

Just throwing my 2 cents in....the 191t is great for static images but has a very bad problem with severe ghosting on grays...if you want to read more about it there is a HUGE thread on arstechnica.... its the only problem...i still live with this and like my 191t...it is very asthetically pleasing....

I know what the right thing is to do. I should wait. Wait for the 192t, wherever it is. Oh its such a tough wait. Maybe I'll buy a 172t to tide me over, doh, I broke my promise to myself. I feel that it must be coming soon, since Dell and Samsung (with discounts and rebates) seem to be rolling these 191ts out the door at a pretty quick rate, you'd think they're trying to make room on the stock shelves for the next generation of 19xt's. Oh well, any thoughts? Predictions for a release date?

152T=172T=181T=191T
these are in the same generation, came out at the same time, using same PVA panel (except 15"), have similar spec.

because suffix "1" is used for P series, so 15" and 17" use suffix "2".

King,
No, thats wrong actually
The 172t is more recent.

Even the Anandtech editor (read up in this thread) acknowledges that the 191t is the first revision, while the 172t is a second revision.

The 171p came out before the 172t.

By the way, that $100 rebate on the 191t is only if you buy it from BestBuy for $899, what a joke. Newegg has it for $790 with free shipping

In Asia, 151P/171P came out at the same time as 152T/172T,
they have exactly same spec, just the P in a F.A. designed chassis.

Gentlemen -

Don't forget the 1900FP from Dell is just a 191T in disguise...watch for instant rebates/deals, and you could get that puppy for ~$650...(I did) :Q

The chassis does make a potentially significant difference.

The 172T is wall-mountable, and the 171P can be rotated to portrait mode.

I've seen the 171P and it's hands down the best LCD 17' monitor I've seen - better than the Dell 1702FP, KDS-Rad, Sony, etc.

Anyone know where to buy the 172T at a good price?

Unless you feel the portrait option is worth a $200 premium, the 1900FP can be had from Dell @ $600-700 depending on the current promo. Plus Dell LCDs have a 3 year Dell warranty.

i have the 191t and can vouch for it kicking ass. for games there definitely is some ghosting.

best looking picture ive ever seen though ... i keep a crt around for games as i wont be happy with an lcd response for quite some time.

so any eta on that monitor review AnandTech Deals ?

Personally, I'm waiting for a 20"+ 16ms LCD for under $1,000.

When that happens I'm buying one. Was close to getting in on that Dell deal, but really wanted a better response time than those Dells ...

cheers!

$100 REBATE!

If you notice, the rebate is from Samsung not BestBuy so I am sure you can buy the monitor from newegg..

I was in BB on Sunday with my sister-in-law who wanted to buy her birthday present from her husband (my brother). We looked at a Sony 18.1, but they were out of them - only the demo was available. We were shown the 191T, and she decided she wanted it (899 - 100 MIR). Turned out they were out of it too. He said we could order it and have it shipped, and I figured the shipping would be free. I was told that it would be free shipping only if we bought it from BB online. We ordered right there on one of their boxes from BB online and the sales guy printed out the rebate coupon for us.
