New LCD monitor

I am looking for LCD recommendations. Size is 18-19 ?. I do a heavy software development and practically no games.
Any idea, please?

Should I be looking for monitors with a native resolution 1024X768?
Somebody told me that.

Basically the bezel is all that changed...191 thin bezel, 192 wide bezel... here is a Specs comparison.

For a 19" LCD, I'd be looking at a native resolution of 1280x1024.

For 18-19" monitors, the normal resolution is 1280x1024. As someone mentioned earlier in this thread, check out Hot Deals for Dell LCD deals. Both the 1800FP and 1901FP are excellent and inexpensive.

The reason to have 1024X768 as a native resolution is because if you normally work at that resolution (and I do) then monitors with a higher native resolution will have bad quality at 1024X768. Is that a true statement?

Yes, that is true.

However, I truly believe that once you start using 1280x1024 on a nice 19" TFT, you won't want to go back to 1024x768.

The higher resolution of the screen will allow you to show more of your code and design, therefore being able to see more, which should increase your productivity (as you won't need to keep scrolling from side to side and up/down )

The image quality on an LCD will always be best at the native resolution, however I wouldn't call non-native resolution quality "bad." On what size monitor do you use 1024x768? Keep in mind that 19" LCD means 19" viewable, which is almost as large as a 21" CRT. You shouldn't have too much trouble adjusting to the native (1280x1024) resolution if you are used to 1024x768.

I have the 192t (picked up from Newegg for $699) and love it. Its slightly improved from the 191t, but its not a major difference. Based on my limited time on a 191t and most of the reviews I have seen the 192t has somewhat improved color reproduction. The bezel is larger, but its not terribly large. I got the 192 over a 191 mainly due to the improved image, I thought that the larger bezel might bug me, turns out I actually kind of like it though. Other then that you lose the rotate feature the 191t had but that never really mattered to me, for some it might though.

While I dont think there is any way you will find a 192t for near $500 anytime soon I highly recommend it. If you have around $700 I would get it.

markgg:

I got the official word from Samsung today at COMDEX. They basically messed up. Most of the new panels that are shipping with the monitor are 750:1 (they say) but there are a bunch of 500:1's in there, and they obviously cant sell the 500:1 as 750:1. Its a mess. I think even 500:1 is being a bit generous.
