oh shit i forgot this existed. Omar Sy did the *excellent* Untouchable, which means i am going to get me a whole bunch of downloads just now. This is in French, right?

It's an absolutely silly but fun show and goes down really easy. Good times.

i also watched The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let's Do The Time Warp Again - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1267299/reference/

what is it with these stupidly long titles.

Anyway, it's a scene-by-scene remake of the original film.

It currently has 4.2/10 on IMDb. Yes.

Now, it wasnt HORRIBLE. Personally i don't find Laverne Cox to be an alltogether pleasant human to look at, but i think .. she? ... tried as hard as she could to fill be unfillable boots of Tim Curry. The rest of the cast were .. obviously all off by *some* degree. But most of them were ok, in their own way. They tried to be really really faithful to the original film and, you know, i think they ought to be proud of their achievement. But ..

As a live show, this would have been a fuckton of fun.
As a film ... no? Like, why would i ever watch this .. when i can watch the original?

We have a situation similar to the Cowboy Beebop TV remake. In itself, it's not bad - actually it's impressive how close they came to the original cartoon. But the original cartoon FUCKING EXISTS, and it's BETTER.

i'm gonna say 5/10, but, if you have interest in stage productions, probably closer to a 7/10.

I guess at some point before I die, I need to watch Rocky Horror.

Look, Rocky Horror is something that you've either discovered on your own - driven by a taste for the quirky, weird, unusual - or you haven't. Which is also fine. If you head doesn't tell you WOW, this film is REALLY WEIRD, I NEED TO SEE IT then you probably won't think much of it once you do get to see it.

I got turned off on the idea by the weird nerds in high school who were obsessed with the movie.

I had stopped being much of a fan before this season but I guess I wasn't the only one.

The theme of the new incarnation is On the Road where it seems from the episode I'm watching at the moment, they go various public-ish forges across the US - most of which probably owe their existence to Forged in Fire. But I digress.

This is really quite a good idea since I don't think we ever really appreciate the cultural differences among different sections of the country. Even if you're well traveled, I think it can give you a different perspective.

IDK, this is first episode of this season I'm actually watching I can only really tolerate it in the background. But it's still kinda cool.

Oh another good point about this format is that I think all of the forges they're going to have multiple people trying to learn smithing. So whoever runs these places knows offhand who's got a shot and who doesn't. You've still got a lot noobs though so you're likely to see mistakes that more professional folks would never, ever make.

Barbie - 4/10

I had no clue what to really expect from this movie but it was worse than I expected. It's not even that the theme of Barbie is bad or anything. It's just a bad movie.

.. there was a book.
And apparently, they butchered it.

I thought the movie was pretty good actually and now I'd like to read the book because I didn't know it was based on a novel.

So I started to watch that video you posted and one of the first things he says is he really likes both the book and the movie. Just going to point out some differences. At which point I stopped since I'm going to read the book.

But he likes the movie, as a fan of the book.

I watched
Austin Powers : Goldmember - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0295178/reference/

by far my favourite AP film. For some reason the Interewbz disagree, current IMDb rating: 6.2/10, but i loved everything about this film, and i found the trilogy to get consistently better. While the first was an amusing Bond spoof, and the second was an improvement, the third really pulls out all the stops and really bites into the tropes. The "you're just a nameless henchman, just fall down", the "English English" scene, the Japanese Twins, Evil Scott, and obviously the great final reveal. Just the introduction scene - with Tom Cruise, Kevin Spacey, Danny DeVito and Gwyneth Paltrow is a cinematic masterpiece.

8/10

and

Blazing Saddles (40th Anniversary Edition) in 4k - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071230/reference/

remastered - and miraculously uncensored.

8/10

I also watched the first 3 of 5 (yet unreleased) episodes of

Scavenger's Reign
- https://www.imdb.com/title/tt21056886/reference/

Anime, US-written & drawn, but strongly Jap & Korean influenced. About a group of survivors from some unexplained exploration crash on an alien planet, fairly minimal on the dialogue, but nevertheless understandable in story. Reminds me of Nausicaa, but in a good way, with less of the cutesy "love will save the world" bullshit and more of the "deadly fungus infection" that the Miyazaki film implies but never uses.

8/10 if it continues this way

Decent movie for those who don't know the specifics of the Yom Kippur War.

6/10

A movie with a very promising start whose final 30 minutes could have been fun. Willem Dafoe is Hollywood's King of Cringe.

5.5/10 (Saddens me coz it could have been a solid 7)

eh eh eh ..
i'm just gonna note that, the moment that the abject reality of the massacre that Israel has brough upon the Palestinians is right in the eye of the media, MAYBE a film review about the hero of Israel isn't really a great choice.

Maybe the movie depicts the time when Israel wasn't that bad? Maybe it was THAT war that turned Israelis into murderers? I don't know. I'm conflicted. But it would be interesting to know what Golda would say about the current Israel.

Recently did a double feature. Sicario and Sicario: Day of the Soldado.

Both good. 8/10. Given the ending of the 2nd one methinks the 3rd will be interesting. Benicio has a few things to take care of.

watch the trailer and let your imagination take it from there as that version will be better than the actual movie.
it is a fun turn your brain off watchalong, but the writing doesnt hit the right tone or have a strong theme that adds up to any sort of emotional payoff at the end. there a ton of cameos from Evan's friends that draw a chuckle. also a ton of apple product placement rammed in throughout. it either needed to be more serious or go whole hog on the comedy, instead it languishes in a non-taut deadfish middle ground.

7.5-8.0 out of 10.

Does this version include the longer taking down of Mongo? On my DVD there is only one way they took down Mongo but I recall a version where they tried several different ways of trying to subdue him.
yes .. no.
The scenes are in a separate file as "deleted scenes". They are fully restored and are fun, but, are not spliced in the film.

The AppleTV series Silo inspired me to read the books, which are almost always better. Book 1, which the tv show covers about a third of, was very very good. It was nice to have some visuals of the setting from the show, and the book was a page turner and was very satisfying. But just finished book 2. A masterpiece. Some of the best sci-fi I have ever read, from prose to plot development to everything. Book one was just setting a stage that book two launched a rocketship from. Just brilliant. On to the final book in the trilogy.
