A new Anakin series is warranted with the real child star Anakin grown up. May help to at least pay the bills for his mental health treatment

Netflix's The Gentlemen 8/10. Pretty good short series. Spin off from Ritchie 's film with McConaughey.

They don't but not gonna buy the book. I have a terrible habit of chewing on words while reading them so it takes a very long time for me to read a book and that time would be better spent on ATOT.
You should watch the first Dune from the 80's then. IMO it might give you a better understanding of what's going on.

And Timothee Chalamet is, physically, someone who i could probably murder with my bare hands
What even is this shit?

All of you going on about why Paul Atreides can't kick ass because of his build/look need to STFU. I have rolled with 16yr old kids that would snap, tap, or nap all of you. It's the most ignorant shit I've read here in good while. Just stop. I'm 6'5" and was 245-250LBS when I was rolling with purple belts and up at 145-165lbs and they'd merk all of you. Even the 16yr old high school wrestlers that were blue belts would beat you like a rented mule. You have no idea what you are talking about. Trust me on this one.

ok *maybe* but film is not reality.
when i see the guy's sunken chest i cant help but think malnutrition.
this is why we cast moustache-twirling villains as bad guys and not just some random dude.

dude, everyone called him a Emo. thats what Emo means. you wouldnt call Sepultura "Emo" right? why not? what are the differences?

You try to come across as this thoughtful art analyst but really you are just a machismo trope.

Fascinating.

In the book, Paul was totally emo. He was a teenage boy; he was supposed to be emo.

+1

A quote from the Dune 2000 mini-series:

Paul: You don't know what you're talking about.
Irulan: Oh, I've heard all about the moody Paul, the grim Paul, the angry and unhappy Paul who has been exiled to Arrakis where - poor boy - one day, he will inherit responsibility for the greatest treasure in the universe.
Paul <petulantly>: ... and the never-ending struggle to defend it!

Mr. Mercedes - 7.5/10 (Now streaming on Peacock)

Originally aired in 2017 with 3 seasons tied to the 3 Stephen King books -

We're through Season 1 EP 5 and really enjoying this cat & mouse game from the retired detective played superbly by Brendan Gleeson and the deranged psychopath played by Harry Treadway.

They really pushed the limits of incest/sexual abuse with this one to give it the ultimate ick factor.

Yup, check the comments
1984 NO CONTEST david lynch is a genius
Hands down 1984 win
Sean Young in the 1980's? Sorry, other girls, you may as well just pack it in and go home.
Sean Young was absolutely stunning

don't forget the 1984 shields
1984
Chani and Princess Irulan were better in the 1984 version.
1984 worm is better
Only the 1984 version has Sting in it. Clear winner!
Well Chani is the downgrade of the century
This Chani sucks. She's a grouchy little bitch that steps waaay out of line for her culture.
you can't beat a toto soundtrack
'84 version for me
1984, modern cinema just doesn't hit the same.
Zendaya is ugly.
1984
Og Is the best
1984 Dune is the only dune movie I need.
price irulan was so hot now we have that garbage
Easy, 1984!
the 1984 version is WAY better then the new ones.
Original Dune fucks the remake up the ass in all aspects, it's a memorable work of art, with hidden meanings, made to disturb, make you think about shit, the remake is forgettable shit.
Chani and Paul feel like the biggest casting and writing fu*kups. Paul was supposed to have been military trained since little kid, not a whiny pusspuss. Chani was supposed to be a hardcore fremen soldier with only what’s best for her clan at heart.
84 wins cast was way better
i still maintain the 80s one did the lore better and fleshed out the characters more
1984 is usually better quality cinema . Anything from 20015-current is shit coming from Hollywood
The 1984 version is gorgeous, and had style. The 2024 version is like a whispery fart on a sand dune.

and the best one
1 Original movie
2 Mini series part 1 and 2
3
4
5
6
7
8
9
10 Dune remake with willy wonka

hey, i just copypasta some comments. there's about another 700 like this. Did YOU check the comments?

New Dune did nothing for me. Haven't seen part deux so can't comment on it.

New sadworm sucketh.

During his first close encounter with a sandworm in Dune, Paul notes, "Its mouth was some eighty meters in diameter ... crystal teeth with the curved shape of crysknives glinting around the rim ... the bellows breath of cinnamon, subtle aldehydes ... acids ..."[3]

Vs

Also, I guess sandworm breath smells of cilatro.

@DigDog

You mistook my response for me giving a shit about whether x number of people think such-and-such is best. I was only pointing out that plenty of people think the mini-series is good (which is what I thought was the point of your counterpoint). I have to say though, you've chosen an *odd* metric to assert popularity though, possibly because Dune '84 is absolutely savaged by other versions (such as the most recent movies) on RT/IMDB.

The only reason that I kind-of care how popular a film/series I like is because its popularity is a huge driver for for it to get a decent BR/4k release/remaster, and therefore the Dune mini-series very likely won't (from what I've heard the BR version may as well be upscaled from the DVD version).

IMO the only way Dune (1984) would have been a good movie is if they had cast Jack Nance as Paul.

.. the costumes on the 2003 version are ghastly - why would you want a BR remaster of *that*

the photography ... jesus. I can literally see where the spotlights are in this scene. look at the right front guy's face.

the problem with IMDb is the same as any other poll - only people who care to vote, actually vote. And frankly i dont care if people "think that the navigator CGI is so bad". Let them. I can't stop people from being wrong, i can only guide those who seek the light.

Mr and Mrs Smith (2024) on amazon
Donald Glover and Maya Erskine as title characters in a reboot/sideboot version of the Pitt Jolie movie.

8/10
this is a very subtle and non-spoonfed narrative style, closer to an Andor approach. it is primarily about the relationship and less about the action or plot. tons of cameos and guest stars delivering great performances. the cinematography is naturalistic but doesnt splurge often enough with crane(drone) shots to make it feel like a big movie. it is passably worth watching but doesnt have any scenes with either enough comedy or excitement to make it something you would ever rewatch.

the spycraft is a bit cringe, it feels like they wanted to have dialogue of spies treating their job like regular people with their 9to5 routine and emotional foibles vs the seriousness of actual operatives. the discipline and rigor of actual opsec and no evidence deniability is not present, though the same could be said about the movie.

i'm sorry, when does this get good? I've watched 2 episodes and all i could think is "you can't just cast Brendan Gleeson and magically expect the good to happen".

Watched 1 hour 37 min of Argylle. It was interesting until they revealed everything and now it just seems like a waste of time that they took so long trying to deceive the viewer. Lost interest and turned it off. May watch later if nothing better. Started watching Damsel. Can't say I'm Millie's fan but the vistas are lovely. Money was put to good use in the movie's production.
