I think that happened because of the ending. Should've let the girl and her guy get away. It was just too brutal and cruel an ending.

Also, Hemsworth was beyond insane, with no logic to his madness. The part where the little girl grows into a young adult is also skipped which I found pretty annoying. There was definitely plenty filler stuff in there that it would've been much preferable to remove the filler material and give more screen time to the little girl's evolution to what she became. I think 15 minutes of that would have sufficed.
I thought it gave a good backstory. It made Fury Road an even better movie. People follow madmen btw, who do insane and often irrational things in the pursuit of power - his character makes a lot of sense. I also thought it gave a solid backstory. It's a shame what happened at the box office, it was around a couple weekends where nothing did well. Also it's no superhero movie, although I would like more Mad Max and Mad Max type movies than the amount of superhero shit we were inundated with.

House of Ninja's on Netflix - 8/10

Decent cast. Excellent fight choreography.

I really liked the storyline with two warring shinobi clans. I hope there's a season 2 as there were unresolved issues at the end of the mini-series.

The shadowy BNM government agency, and their control of the Tawara clan member's lives really had me rooting for the Fuma. And that's with knowing about the Fuma clan's insane plans of mass murder. At least the Fumas are in it for themselves and to a large degree, lead their own lives. The shinobis working under the government are no better than slaves, needing government approval for something as simple as meeting up with a girl, on penalty of death.

The Terror 8/10
TV series, each season is a different supernatural horror story somewhat inspired by a historical real life tragedy. I am four episodes into the first season, which is about a lost expedition to the Arctic. Top notch acting and storytelling. The atmosphere created of being stranded in the Arctic along with the things that go bump in the night is awesome.

i managed to stay away for over 30 years but today i caved in and finally watched

Hudson Hawk - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102070/reference/
the 1991 trainwreck that massively derailed the career of one Bruce Willis, and frankly i'm still reeling from the awfulness.

I've known of this film dubbed before i was aware of the original, because apparently with the dubs they went even more comedy. And, it's meant to be a comedy, a surreal one at that, but it clumsily shifts - quite constantly - between serious and ridiculous.

The premise is that star burglar Ernie "Hudson Hawk" Hawkins is being released from jail, and recruited by a whole bunch of baddies for "one big score", which is super-obviously a big machiavellian scheme. And we know this because the very first scene of the film shows us what the McGuffin is, far before the protagonist knows about it. It's the philosopher stone, a machine to turn lead into gold.
Hudson has a friend who's your typical new jersey mafia guy, and these scenes are filmed in standard, serious Goodfellas style.
They go burgling, and it becomes a slightly-comedic action/thriller.
They deal with the bag guys, or anything that has a part of plot development, and it's a surreal .. comedy? More surreal and grotesque than just fun comedy.
And then there's the scenes with Andie McDowell (or Julia Dreyfus, i can't tell them apart), which are tough-guy romcom.
And another nail in the coffin is the protracted scenes with the visually-offensive Sandra Bernhard.
Casting serious actors like Leonardo Cimino and James Coburn just makes them stick out like a sore thumb.

It's bad. The direction is pathetic, there's a ton of physical humor (i.e. comedy fight scenes) where none of the actors can move properly and are edited together in a way that it looks like everyone is just standing still. WE KNOW this isn't Bruce Willis' fault, as he had just f* done Die Hard, so it's got to be a combination of the stunts, direction, and editing.

I had a friend who swore on this film as something so bad, it's good, but i didn't laugh that way, not like Santa Claus Defeats The Martians, it's just .. boring. And bad. Maybe the dub makes it slightly funnier, but i wouldn't risk it if i were you.

4.5/10

I'm watching a few old TV series at the moment while doing the ironing: Sopranos, TNG and X-Files (all from the start).

I recently watched a S1 episode of X-Files called 'Fire', and you know that Internet joke about how British people cum and say lots of things like, "scrumptious", "gosh", "oh heavens", "I'm arriving", etc? I think Chris Carter in 1993 really thought that's what British people are like. Admittedly none of the characters had a monocle, bowler hat or said, "tally-ho!", but it was skirting pretty close to that the whole time! E.g. <10 year old children in three piece suits playing in the garden.

One thing that was funny was the notion that Lord Whoever The Fuck would have hired a guy with an obvious Irish accent in ~1993 especially during a fictional spate of high-ranking English people getting mysteriously knocked off, not to mention that the English police would have been all over the Irish dude like a rash to the point that he probably got convicted without sufficient evidence before they realised that he can produce fire from his fingertips.

We've got exactly one British dude in our company. He's the Head of Risk. 60+ and overall quiet but sometimes he will crack a joke or two, like at an office birthday party gathering, he said, "Can't wait for the cake! Have been on tea since breakfast!". I regret that he's not my boss. Would've been nice listening to him all the time. He does have a knack for rambling on and it's pleasant to hear, at least to my ears, in that lovely British accent

An exchange program was set up at our school with German students. When I was in Germany, at the opportune time my exchange partner turned to his friend and they announced in unison in very-English accents, "tea time!".

Mid-teen, Southern-but-not-quite-chav me responded with a general WTF?

I tried out Earl Grey tea because it's what British are supposed to like?

It tasted a bit different but not so good that I would wanna switch to it.

AAGH.

ok so. For a country that literally went to war for tea, you would not believe how shit of a tea they drink today, here, in the UK.
Go to the cheapest discount supermarket that exists in your country and buy the cheapest tea bags that you can find, that will be a reasonable approximation of what they drink here.
Twinings? no fucking way. They drink PG Tips and Tesco Red and Typhoo, which are literally the dust byproduct of packaging tea for CIVILIZED COUNTRIES, packed and sold. It takes about 3 seconds to properly infuse a UK teabag, versus the several minutes it takes to brew tea everywhere else in the world.

UK tea is disgusting. Imagine coming to Italy to eat pasta and they served you microwaved spaghetti.

British tea is a kettle of hot water that was exposed to a Taj Mahal poster for thirty seconds. For good tea, shop middle eastern grocery stores.

Saw Deadpool/Wolverine last Friday. I expect if you like the series you'll be thrilled with this movie. Some of the one liners had my wife even busting up. 9/10. Watched The Union on Netflix this past weekend. 5/10 it had a decent cast, but totally forgettable movie simply a cut and paste of many other movies of it's genre.

Just finished The Union at lunch. It was merely OK. Didn't expect much but a good lunchtime movie.

English tea in my experience does taste quite samey, like variations on a theme (which factually is 'Indian tea'). My German wife thinks the English notion of tea is an abomination; the German view of tea as I understand it involves a multitude of options based on various fruits / herbs / whatever really.

Back when I could drink tea, I enjoyed Earl Grey. Now I can't drink any tea for health reasons. IMO saying it's "disgusting" is a bit of an overstatement, but what I would say is that no-one should think of trying 'English' tea as being a necessary part of "holidaying in UK bucket list" (unless that list also contains items such as "must experience queuing in the post office").

no you do not.

He thought Indy 5 was watchable, he'll probably think the same of Indy 4 is my guess. (I've watched 4, I didn't see the point in wasting time watching 5).

- edit - eh, misremembering shit
