Same goes for watching Renfield with Nic Cage.
??That's out ?? I'm gonna watch it now.
I watched
The Legend of 1900 AKA
The Legend Of The Pianist On The Ocean or whatever translation of the title you saw it with.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120731/reference/
This film falls in the same group as The Usual Suspects; it's brilliant the first time you watch it, and then not that good when you watch it again. But, if you have never seen it, you owe it to yourself.
Esthetics are close to The Godfather; wonderful sets, costumes, a very interesting and varied cast. Good photography, and obviously excellent sound, as this film is primarily about music.
In the year 1900, a baby boy is abandoned on the luxurious transcontinental liner "Virginian", found by the crew, he grows up to be the piano player in the orchestra. But, he never leaves the ship. His quirky personality and awesome skill on the piano are the focus of the story, where "1900" (named for the year he was found) observes the lives of the characters around him as an alien who cannot understand them.
Next to him is straight-man and narrator Max, who holds together the rest of the story, told in flashbacks, on how 1900 disappeared when the Virginian was scrapped.
The good is, that the film is just good. Everything is well done and the story is enjoyable.
The bad is, the film is poorly structured, too long, and a lot of things are there just for spectacle. The story of Max isn't nearly as interesting as the story of 1900, the story of 1900 is just a section of film that starts nowhere and ends nowhere. You can only watch the piano duel so many times before you notice that the film lacks cohesion.
.. it's a nice film experience the first time around. But it won't change your life.
7.9/10
why THE FUCK do they cast an actor that has a eyesight problem, and then FOCUS THE CAMERA RIGHT ON HIS EYES. You understand that, that means you are *trying* to say something?? But instead no, it's just an eye tic.
