Agreed... I loved my MX510 until it died for some reason a few days ago. I took it in to Best Buy (found out that they have a deal with Logitech to where if the mouse has a problem during the 3 year warranty period Logitech offers, Best Buy will take care of the warranty for Logitech and just do a return/exchange on the mouse, or give credit towards a different one) and decided to give the MX1000 a go. Damn. It actually made a difference in the positive direction. I love how well my thumb can rest easily on the groove of the mouse now... I still feel the MX510 rocks, but I have to say I have been converted. (btw, no lag issues with the mouse in gaming for me)

I hate the ergonomics of the 1000. The thumb groove is WAY too deep. My thumb ends up folded under my palm and the mouse always feels like it's about to squish/slip out from under the pinky side of my hand.

Also, the 1000 is too small, and does not properly fill the hand like the 500/510/700.

Ergonomic perfect was achieved with the 500. Logitech should've just kept refining that design.

EDIT: At least the silver color is much nicer than the atrocious red/blue of the MX510. Still a little too riced though. Does no one understand that true elegance is understatement?

Riced???? MAYBE (not alot) the red and blue look a tiny bit riced, but the silver one??? Na, I don't think you have an understanding of what "riced" means.

The glossy sheen is what puts it over the top. Too flashy. The MX500/MX700 still have the best color scheme - attractive, but subtle and professional.

That metallic silver sheen is the equivalent of chrome rims on a car - trying too hard to be noticed, and thus obviously compensating for something else. The same way cases should never have these ludicrous looking side windows or LEDs or UV lights, no metal finish should ever go above brushed metal. Look well made, like you are interested in quality, not like you have nothing to show for your life except a Toys R Us PC.

The glossy sheen is bad because its bad for sweaty hands and seems to collect stuck on dirt easily, at least for me.

It looks like an mx510 with updated firmware (in game sensitivity adjustments via the scroll up/ scroll down key buttons) and possibly a better sensor. I'm sure they could have easily added the sensitivity switching to current mice on the market. I guess they're running out of ideas...

Hmmm.. I was looking forward in buying a new mouse and here's what I got from a simple google search.

This mouse can be won through gaming conventions, supposedly there is only 200 in the world. Pretty cool.

One was on ebay for 37 dollars. Text

Cawchy87, you're right those M$ mice are pretty nice. Bought that exact one (with it's wireless keyboard counterpart) for my girlfriend at the time last x-mas. Wanted to keep it for myself after she put it on her desk!

Looks cool. I don't think its just a firmware upgrade since the max dpi is 1600 (mx510 is 800). Not to say that's much of a change though...And I have to say, anyone who is a serious gamer would never use an in-game sensitivity switcher.

I'm pretty sure Razer had in game sensitivity switching quite a few years ago with its boomslang mice. I had a boomslang 2000 and it had that.

I think ill stick with my mx500. as was said before, classy, yet professional.

AFAIK it's supposed to be named mx518 and use the mx1000 laser optics. So we finally can have a corded mx1000.
