cuz that is why i buy a computer so that I know it has a high resell value...
we all know apple could make their product cheaper... they would OWN the market if they made them cheaper and if i could get a NEW Mac Pro under $1200 I would get it in a heartbeat
Simple Fact: APPLE is greedy
It has taken decades for Microsoft to get a clue - I dont think APPLE has that much time

Since you specifically mentioned the Mac Pro...
The Mac Pro is a workstation, it packs Quad Core Xeons. Those chips, on their own, are not cheap. In fact, I am fairly certain that just ONE of those processors at the 3.2 GHz speed is over $1200 (closer to $1600 I think). So, for them to sell them at a multi-thousand dollar loss just to gain a few points of market share and a bunch of customers they don't want... I don't see them doing it.
Simple Fact: Apple is a Company
Simple Fact: Companies try to make a profit
Simple Fact: Apple tries to make a profit
Listen, Apple could sell their systems for either less profit or no profit and definitely sell more systems... but make less money. However, in addition to making less money they would also get quite a few more customers that they simply do not want. Steve Jobs himself has said this. They do not want the kind of customer that you are. Expecting companies to bend over backwards and take it a huge loss on every sale.
This isn't the PS3, it isn't like their is a huge software repository that is driving sales of the hardware.

No, it's just sheep who think they're buying something better than the other guy. In fact, I could get a laptop with a better screen, bigger HDD, 2x the memory and all for hundreds less than the cheapest Apple laptop. That's a big deal to me. I'm not someone who cares about being "in". I don't buy Apple stuff because it's trendy and cool. That's how they market things.
Just an example here.
An Asus Laptop with a 14.1" screen, 2Ghz C2D, 4GB memory, multiformat DVD/RW, 250GB HDD and Geforce 9300M is $650.
The cheapest Apple laptop is $1299 and has a 2GB C2D, 2GB memory, 160GB HDD, and a Geforce 9400M, but has a 13" screen.
So, to me it seems like you're paying more for less. Smaller screen, less memory, smaller HDD. I don't like OS-X that much in order to go spending hundreds more on a Mac. So what are you paying for?

Well the topic is or should be about the new laptop. Anyhow I also feel the Mac Pro is priced off. I can build a system with similar or better specs for less money.
