the body lines are pretty clearly defined, so i'm not sure how effective that camouflage is. or maybe it's very effective at hiding something else? i guess i'll know when i buy one.

Oof, really guys? Going on about double diffusers like that has some actual meaning. That really only applies in the way F1 does it by running exhaust over part in order to manipulate airflow on it. I don't think multi-level diffusers have any benefit otherwise.

I don't know why these companies aren't looking into more active aero like fans. That stuff isn't banned on road cars and they could do so much with them and the shutters and other tech (think huge variable plane turbos). It would help with lower speed downforce too, they could adjust it for speed (so they could adjust the downforce easily for higher speed), and they could even use it to feed their engine intake or cool the motor (Ferrari in particular might want to consider it after all the cars that have caught on fire and/or baked their engine covers closed due to high heat).

Isn't the 918 not really going to be competing with this or the Ferrari? I believe Porsche is supposed to have a 960 that should do that, although if the rumors are true they better have something up their sleeves as they're allegedly going to be going with a 5xxhp engine.

Its funny, but people condemn the McLaren for being all about specs and whatever, yet that's all people seem to focus on, and the wrong ones. Of course its kinda McLaren's fault. Their styling could use some tweaking and their names and marketing sure could as well.

Boy, I don't get this at all. I find the design rather unwieldy, particularly from the side and rear, and overall it just leaves me cold. I have no doubt that this will be an amazingly thoroughly engineered, blisteringly fast car, but who would chose it over a 918, much less a Zonda tricolore, 760RS, or Huayra? For my (totally theoretical) money, Pagani really owns the ultra high-end hypercar market at this point. I would expect the F70 to offer more overall appeal as well.

The F1 has a legitimate place as one of the most striking, appealing cars in history (probably in my top five), but none of the McLaren cars since then really speak to me.

Pagani is so overrated. And they highlight exactly what makes McLaren different. Pagani's cars are fast but they're nothing special at all performance wise. The 12C hangs with cars it really shouldn't and if it wasn't for Top Gear's hardon for "proper supercar" and them not understanding jackshit most people would be wowed at the MP4-12C. It might not be that much of a looker but its pretty ridiculous. 458 beating performance (that is frankly probably more easily attainable for the average driver than in the 458; hell it beat the Veyron Super Sport on the Top Gear track), pretty stellar comfort, and on top of all of that doesn't it offer like 911-level or better fuel economy? If this was Dodge or Chevy they'd be making a huge fuss over that, instead its not even a footnote its like some offhand comment.

The new Pagani is straight up ugly. The more I look at it the worse it looks and I wasn't that big of a fan of the Zonda (not since Quasimoto have I seen a hunchback that big). They basically fixed the big issue with the look of the Zonda and then made the rest look worse.

I don't even think this or the 12C look that good either. To me the XJ220 is still probably the best looking supercar. Too bad Jaguar cocked it up and kept it from being truly epic. Good god, now that's a car that needs modernized.

This.

If the Mp4-12C is anything to go by, the Aventador will probably just get a couple buffs and already be on track to outgun this in-name-only "F1".

I doubt it. The Aventador is in a class above the 12C and actually loses to it on a track. I'd probably take it for street use too although for a showoff its hard to top the Aventador right now. Its actually probably the best looking of the current crop of supercars but it still looks kinda wonky.

McLaren built an actual factory, they'll be making cars past this one. I'm sure some rich bastard will commission a modern F1.

Yep. Buy a 12C, have it beefed up and modded to 1000bhp. It's already been done. How is this any better than an Agera? So weak.

Around a track I'm sure there will be a huge difference. For the same reason a GT-R hangs with cars way above it at tracks.

I would prefer a Koenigsegg for street driving but there's no competition on a track. Just like the old 900hp one got smoked by the 12C, the Agera even with 1300hp will probably lose to this one at a track. Now, accel and decel tests might be different. I'd love to see Top Gear take the latest greatest Koenigsegg against that new car from SSC. There's a lot of similarities there and yet plenty of differences. Maybe have them show up at one of the big standing mile events where they can setup an epic showdown, and then watch those two get their doors blown off by 2000+ hp Ford GTs and others.

fan cars had their time - it was 1978. a discrete powered aero system would have a lot of mass, volume and complexity, which is the opposite of what a designer wants. besides, every sports/race car already has an air pump with several hundred horsepower.
