New Mobo - Updating Drivers?

I have a new MSI 865PE Neo2-PLS coming in a few days to replace my old MSI 648 Max-L motherboard and have a few questions about setting it up. I have SiS 648 AGP and IDE drivers installed right now, so I'll need to uninstall these and setup all the Intel ones once I put the new board in. Will this cause any problems or conflicts? Motherboard drivers are probably the most important and should be installed before everything else, so should I uninstall my video card drivers, sound card drivers, DirectX, etc, before I swap in the new motherboard and install it's specific drivers? Or is it okay to just leave everything the way it is and just uninstall this current mobo's stuff.

Thanks in advance.

Definitely want to uninstall all chipset drivers. It's likely that you'll get cyclic reboots, BSODs, etc. if you don't. Driver Cleaner may do it right, or I hear that you can do a repair installation of windows to set it up as well. I always format and reinstall when I change motherboards but you don't have to be that drastic if you don't want to.

Edit: Here's a guide

Well, here's the deal. I modded a ASUS something266 VM motherboard to some other model (not sure of the name) toa take on some overclocking features. Well, I was working inside my case and broke the piece of solder off that closed the circuit, basicly changing the type of motherboard I had. When I started the computer back up, I got a BSoD on bootup. So, I'm not sure what's going to happen. I think your best bet would be just to backup what you have, and reinstall windows.

that is a good idea. how exactly does that work? will it uninstall all drivers including mobo, video, sound, dx, etc? or will it leave all of the drivers and just reinstall the system files?

i would reformat but i have serveral gigs of data here that i dont wanna loose.

to Rock Hydra: did the motherboard end up working in the end? maybe the issue was due to something going wrong? also, did you uninstall the previous drivers?

Mobo worked fine. It's just that windows didn't recognize the motherboard and was like OMGWTFNOBOOTFORYOU! So, I reinstalled windows and everything was A-OK.
I remember now, windows didn't have a problem when I went from one intel chipset to another...

Scenario.
Bought new computer parts (including HD)
Took the hard drive out from the other build. 845 chipset.
Booted it as the primary windows drive with no problems in the newer rig (865 chipset), just the display settings were fudged. Anyway, copied some files over to my new hard drive without a hitch. But since you previously had a SiS chipset, I'm not sure how well it's going to work for you. Good Luck.:thumbsup:

A repair install might be all that's necessary. I think that it will effectively set you back to the original windows defaults. Of course windows might try to be "smart" and carry all of your previous drivers and settings over to the new install. I would use driver cleaner (link) and/or windows add/remove programs to uninstall all drivers (video, sound, and chipset) before changing motherboards. Then do a windows repair install after you install the new motherboard.

Edit: Not sure all that's necessary, but it should closely simulate a clean install without losing any important data. Like I said, I always format/reinstall.

i'll give the windows repair a try. right now im trying to figure out what to uninstall. AGP drivers, sound drivers, video drivers, directx, LAN, all need to go. i dont know how to uninstall DirectX and the LAN drivers though, since they're not in add/remove programs.
also, i read that you need to call microsoft for them to activate your OS or something during a windows repair. what is this about? is it as simple as entering the CD key and letting it install like it is during installation?
