New monitor won't awake from sleep, turns itself on, etc

Got a new HP 2311xi monitor today which is replacing an LG monitor. Used it for a few hours and I go to dinner only to come back to a monitor that won't come out of sleep. With my old monitor, or any monitor I've ever owned, I only had to move the mouse or touch the keyboard and it would kick right on. When I do this with this monitor, a message pops up saying it's going back to sleep. Only way get the display back on is to reboot the computer.

The monitor is connected to the computer by a dvi cable which is connected to a display port adapter. No other video connections available on the computer.


Any suggestions?


Looking around I noticed under the monitors menu there is a power saving setting as well as a power - on recall setting. Could the power saving setting be interfering with the computer's power saving settings? Should I try disabling the monitors power saving feature and see if it solves the problem.

Try direct DVI to DVI.

What is your video card? If you have a Radeon HD7000 series, and are using drivers older than catalyst 12.6, that might be the cause.

Try direct DVI to DVI.

Computer only has a display port connection. No dvi connection. That's why I use an adapter.


Graphics is that Intel 4500 built into the mottherboard.


Old monitor worked perfectly fine. Don't know why the new one wants to cause problems.

Still having problems today. The monitor now won't go to sleep. It displays the message going to sleep and turns black for a few seconds and then displys the same message over and over again.


Tonight I now have another problem. I turned the monitor off at it's switch and like 15 minutes later it automatically turns itself on. I didn't even tough the button.


What's going on? I'm going to try a different computer tomorrow to see if it's the monitor or my computer.
