I'm quite clueless as to what monitor I should be looking for. I'm looking for a flat screen with good resolution the least possible. I'v heard the Samsung SynchMaster 955df 19in flat screen monitor is a good one? Looking for one that will last a while, I'v had this NEC MultiSync C500 for a verry long time. I have heard that rescently the quality of NEC products is no longer vastly superrior so just let me know.

Try posting this in Video or General Hardware and also search the forums about monitor topics. Theres alot.

Basically, I think you'll end up seeing the Samsung 900NF, KDS AV-195TF, Samsung 955DF, iiYama i90a, and Sony G400 though the last two are quite a bit more expensive.

What is your price range anyway?

Also, all of those I listed are aperture grill monitors while the Samsung 955DF is a shadow mask. I think the Samsung 955DF is an excellent deal but the refresh rates are rather low. So if you need high refresh rates then I don't think it's for you.

Not to toot my own horn, but I'd recommend the Samsung 900NF at this point, unless you specify your budget or needs of the monitor (like text, graphics, etc...). It's a good price, good company, BNC ports, high max resolution, great refresh rates, great picture, all round nice.

I was planning to get the Samsung 955DF, but found that the G400 going for ~$480 shipped...so I'll be getting the G400. The thing to notice is that G400 has higher refresh rates and allows you to connect two computers to it....otherwise the Samsung is pretty nice monitor for the buck.

NEC FP950 - 19" Diamondtron Flat - BNC/DSUB input

I've got this monitor and it's the most beautiful monitor I've ever seen. Hasn't lost a bit of crispness being on for 8+ hours a day the past 6 months.

In general, I prefer the Diamondtron tube over the Trinitor tube. I've seen both side by side, and I found the Diamondtron to be brighter, sharper, and more uniform.

However, beware that even among the same models of monitors there can be several cosmetic differences. My suggestion is, if you can afford it, to buy 3 of the exact same monitor and keep the best of the three. Chances are one of them will be pretty close to perfect. Remember that it's a big investment and you've gotta be looking at it all the time so you're going to want a nice one.

For CRT's, I guess the NEC FE/FP, Mitsubishi DiamondTron Pro 900u and LaCie based on the Mitsubishi DiamondTron NF Aperture Grille Tube or the Sony F Series based on the Sony F Series Trinitron Aperture Grille Tube is the way to go.

For LCD's, the $4000 22" Apple Cinema Display 1600x1200 and the $1400 SGI (Silicon Graphics Inc) 1600SW 17.3" 1600x1200 w/MultiLink Adapter is the way to go as it's a true Digital Input solution and all the others either cost more or does 1280x1024 resolution only.
