Hiya,
I have:

 •
AMD Athlon 1.4GHz

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 40GB UDMA133 Manufacturer code: 6L040J2

I want:
A motherboard that will take the above peripherals. I would like the motherboard to have:

 •
SDRAM slots

A built-in sound card

A built-in Ethernet adapter (not so important)
I don't need anything fancy like RAID or SCSI ports. It would be nice to have 1 or 2 USB ports.
Could the motherboard be from one of these three manufacturers: ABit, Asus, MSI.

K7S5A dont support ata 133 tho, I would go with the SHuttle AK35 GTR, its a special edition version of the AK31A, it features 4 DDR DIMM slots, 6 PCI, onboard hardware sound, ATA 133, and RAID. ALl for one low price = $129 at newegg.com.

I am using a msi with onboard sound right now and i like it very much, i'm just wondering with new technology why you want sdram and not ddr ram? the motherboard i recommend is a epox 8kha+, look around in other forums and you will keep seeing this board being the number one recommended

why do you want on-board sound when you can get a great sound card cheap?

btw, i've got the ecsk7s5a as well & love it. perf. numbers are great, love the on-board lan, & with both sdram & ddr dram slots you've got a nice upgrade path...

Well, regarding the sound card -- I live in the UK, where things are never cheap. A Sound Blaster Value! card would set me back nearly £39.

Then again there are probably cheaper ones out there .. I'll decide later. Keep the suggestions coming.

P.S. It's not for me .. I already have a rig of my own .. it's for a friend of mine.

I'm pretty sure that any board that still takes SDRAM isn't going to support ATA133. The technologies are just too far apart. But if you don't want RAID, then I doubt you're even going to fill up an ATA66 channel, much less ATA100. So just about any current SDRAM board would do. I like the ECS K7S5A also - stable in my experience, and dirt cheap.
