I recently put in a new ASUS Motherboard a CUV-4X to be exact, I upgraded it from a Tyan that worked just fine, but fried so I figured I'd switch to a better "brandname" like ASUS.
Low and behold, I have problems.
My old board never had problems with CPU heat, but this one does, massively so.
I run a P3-933 and it's not bad just sitting on the desktop running nothing, about 34c, but when I attempt to run a game, it flies up to 65-70c and forces the game to skip and jump so it's unplayable.
I'm not sure what to do about it, never had heating problems before.
I have no chasis fan, but for a test, I grabbed a large room fan, popped the side of the case off, and pointed it at my CPU's guts, it dropped the mobo temp (which has no problems, runs at a steady 30c always) to around 25c. But the processor barely budged maybe one or two degrees, and still heated up in games.
For CPU cooling, I have a fairly simple Antec fan/heatsink combo attached to it. And it's obviously not doing much for this mobo.
Needless to say, considering I have no real performance difference, and the massive heat problems, I won't be purchasing another ASUS board at this rate.
Any suggestions at ALL, hints, tips, whatever, any help you can give I would massively apprecaite.
Thanks very much.
