New motherboard (Epox 8K5A2+) won't POST

Ok, here's the current system I got plugged in:

Epox 8K5A2+
AthlonXP 2000+
256MB Crucial PC2100 DDR SDRAM (CL 2.5)
GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB

I started it up and I get no POST. The error message on the motherboard is "C1" which the online FAQ lists as a memory problem. I tried reseating the memory a whole bunch of times in all three slots to no avail. I tried my different Crucial ram chip and still no go. I am stumped.

Anyone have any similar problems and/or solutions?

When you say no POST I suspect that you are not getting any beeps out of the motherboard either. I just barely had this problem and I fixed it tonight. So, I will give you steps to discovering your problem.

1) Take out all PS/2, USB, and disconnect any IDE devices from IDE cable and pull power on them. (CD-ROM, Hard Drive, Floppy, etc.)

2) With JUST the CPU in, turn on your computer. Are you getting beeps? If so, your RAM is bad. If not, you have a bad CPU or motherboard.

3) Now that you know you either have a bad CPU or motherboard, there is only one way to test them. If you have a friend with a similar motherboard(or any motherboard that can run a palomino, kt266a and on), ask him if you can put your CPU in his motherboard. Don't worry, if the CPU is bad, it won't ruin his motherboard. If the CPU is good, it will POST fine. If the CPU is good, it's your motherboard. If the CPU is bad, well, it's your CPU.

Have you tried clearing your CMOS?

If you find a part that is bad, RMA it.

Yes I am getting beeps out of the motherboard, and the C1 on the error LED tells me it's either something with the RAM, or something with the RAM slots.

And I've cleared teh CMOS already... any other suggestions?

It's your RAM!! Maybe your motherboard doesn't support buffered/unbuffered. Make sure of that. RMA your ram.

But it can't be my ram... I mean, just tonight I switched out the motherboard and my ram was working fine then. Could it be that it's 2100 and the mobo requires 2700??

Your motherboard should run both PC2100 and PC2700 RAM fine. I suspect the motherboard or CPU.

Very hard to troubleshoot when you don't even get any video. Do you have access to a pci video card you can try, or even another AGP card? If you've never gotten the mb to boot, and you know the cpu, ram, and video card are all good, i would conclude the mb is the problem, and a good candidate for RMA.

Yeah I bought a stick of PC2700 DDR Ram yesterday and it does not work as well--same error!!!

I guess the motherboard is going back to newegg :|
