Interesting - thanks for the info. I had no idea there are 'QC optimized bits'...is Google eyeing another SoC, or they simply don't want Android's stock baseline to be tied to proprietory technology from QC? To an extent, unless there is another player for chips, I see this as a moot point...or they should find a way to modularize these bits to reduce risk of being tied to QC.

I agree battery life has a way wider audience, but lots of people pick style over substance

If the phone delivers on battery life it will definitely turn heads! 3630mA with just a 1080p screen should deliver amazing SoT.
Isn't it just that Google doesn't use the latest CAF commits in its Nexus kernels? They miss out on a lot of key hotfixes and improvements to the CPU and could possibly explain why battery life sucks so bad on Nexus devices.

What does Google gain by skipping this?

Other than Samsung and Exynos (who have a difficult relationship regarding android control), and a few Chinese OEMs who use Mediatek, don't all flagship and mid range android phones run on QC hardware?

As it stands, I left the Nexus family and skipped the Nexus 6 because I was tired of terrible battery life.

Not sure if we have any Periscope users here but MKBHD briefly spoke about Moto and 1+2 phones earlier today.

Watch it online for the next 18 hours (Friday 7/31 7:00 PM Eastern) nothing to download or register, just click and watch.

I really like the Moto G 3rd Gen but there are a few things i wish were different. First off i wish they had used Snapdragon 615 instead of 410, and a 4.7 inch display instead of 5 and finally atleast a 3000mah battery instead of 2470mah.

The waterproofing has already made it a bit "brickish" making it smaller with a bigger battery could make this worst. You also have to remember that this device is the main computing device for a big part of it's buyers, so a good size screen matters.
They also have to differentiate the Moto P (that's how I call the X Play, that change in the naming is stupid), or it would make the Moto P SoC look bad.

Well there are two Snapdragon 600 SOCs. An octa core 615 and a quad core 610 as stated in this Anandtech article.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7784/...-64bit-warpath-with-48core-cortex-a53-designs
So they could have used the 610 in Moto G because the 410 is already in Moto E.
Also Adreno 306 in Snapdragon 410 is much weaker than Adreno 405 so the new Moto G will be a little weak in gaming performance .

Agreed, ideally it would be:
E = 410
G = 610
P = 618
X = 808 (820)

But since the 618 isn't out yet, and the benefit of big.LITTLE with only little cores is questionable at best. There is also the "danger" 618 would be to close to 808.
I think the P has really solid base, with an updated SoC and right price it could be a best buy next year and a really solid buy this year. It could become the most popular Moto after the G.

Yep, the Moto X Play will be my next phone. Can't wait to get it! These next few weeks are going to drag! I want it now.

I like the size of the new motto X, but I haven't checked to see if they're doing that annoying thing where the top and bottom bezels are different sizes.

The Huawei nexus is still the phone I am most looking forward to.

Since the Moto Play isn't available in the USA, Canada seems like the logical choice.

Do I just order from moto.ca and ship to the USA? Assuming that's even an option.

That's a good question, I'm looking forward to seeing what people say about that

I have the Nexus 6. I am finding it too big. I would like to go back to the Moto X 2014. I had it before and liked the size. But now with the Moto G 3rd Gen out, should I go for that one? I know its .2 inch smaller which is not a big deal. Plus the Moto G has dual speakers for stereo sound and of course a SD slot. Also now that the Moto G camera is also 13 meg is it as good as the X or perhaps better? The Moto X 2014 is about $150 more which is why I am wondering what to get.

Thanks

Moto G 2015 have a front firing speaker, it's not stereo.

The camera module is lifted from the Nexus 6 with the same f2 lens, but it doesn't have OIS or 4K recording. I'd wager it's at least as good as the Moto X.

The motog3 doesnt have a gyroscope according to reports... but a cpuz screenshot showed an 'orientation sensor' somewhere.. any idea whether photospheres will work?

E = 410
G = 610
P = 618
X = 808 (820)

Makes sense.
I would have liked it if the Moto 'P' was a slightly (very slight) larger version of the Moto X 2013.. with a bigger battery.

Would this be possible without a gyro?

Watched that vid in the morning.. might be it uses an accelerometer? I don't know, which is the reason I asked.

CPUZ output
Check out the 2nd last page.. it mentions an 'orientation sensor' in addition to an accelerometer.. and the output (azimuth, roll etc) seems to be that of a gyroscope..

confusion started when a moto employee on g+ said that the phone does not have a gyro.. but has 2 accelerometers to enable the camera/torch functions
G+

Got a confirmation from a guy that has a new moto G, no photospheres.
