Is it just me or I can't find any temperatures in this review? What's the point of reviewing a card with modified stock cooling if it doesn't include temperatures?!

Despite that, I'm sure it'll do lightyears better than the stock cooler...the plate over the memory must be a cost-saving measure rather than to put individual RAM sinks on, not a bad choice for anyone looking for an 8800GT.

Personally, I'd still get the ECS 8800GT with the Accelero S1, or even better, get EVGA's 8800GT and get their good warranty and service and do it yourself.

Looks like they got Zalman to stamp out some VF1000s with aluminum fins for 'em. Cuts costs, doesn't cool quite as well as copper, but should still be plenty good as the heatpipes do most of the dissipation anyway.

I'm more interested in the Accelero S1 ECS, if only it weren't an ECS, I've never heard of that brand.

ECS is a budget brand. They are known for their budget motherboards. They aren't a band brand just not up there with BFG,XFX,eVGA,ect. I don't think it matters much nowadays what brand video card you go with. I think the only real difference is cooling and warranty.

What card is the XFX that beats every card in the comparison and why is it so much faster?

ECS stands for extra crappy systems. I have had lots of experience with ECS motherboards back in the day (when I Would buy cheap motherboards and spend 10+ hours making it work)
I don't even buy ECS anymore.

Huh? NVIDIA's single slot cooler is defective? When did this happen?

Just delusional people. It works perfectly fine. The temps are within reasonable limits even if its hitting 90C at load. This doesn't mean the cards going to melt..

it's not that the stock reference cooler is defective, as it is that the cooler isn't of the standard we have come to expect of NV and their partners.

the bios issues that affect throttling the fan up at load, the noise level of the original fan, the hot air venting at the video ports on single slots models: it just seems rushed and sloppy. I'm sure the stock cooler works acceptably for stock use, but who here is satisfied with "standard" performance.

if they stuck the 8800GTS g92 dual slot cooler on a 512 GT, I would buy it in a heartbeat instead of hunting around for one with a non reference cooler.

yeah, i second this just get a evga and put an S1 on it. I did it and it drop my temps from 70c idle to 38c idle and load at 98c to 55c load

I just bought the Gigabyte GV-NX88T512HP with a non reference Zalman cooler, but different from the MSI one, i think the cooler model is NV700 or VF700, i dont remember.... Works like a charm... after 2 hours of full load, the temps have been averaged at 52.... and idles at around 40.... isnt that great??? besides, its OCd to 700 Mhz, I havent found any other card with this much OC on a 8800GT

It's the same card, there's just a plastic cover over the heatsink, which is kind of stupid because it would just act as an insulating layer by decreasing passive airflow among the fins.

Just remove it outta the box.

BS. Yes, ECS is a cheap brand, but as long as you're not overclocking they are just as fine as any other motherboard. My dad and me bought plenty of ECS combos from FRY and never had a problem with those. No DOAs, every single one worked out of the box and no problems with stability.

There has been a price fluctuation lately and that ECS 8800GT is completely worthless right now, you can buy that MSI with the Zalman for $229 or buy one of those Galaxy 8800GTs from NCIXUS from like 189 I think it was and buy an Accelero S1 for like $30 (also on sale on Newegg).

So yeah, no reason to buy an ECS card now.

The ECS 8800GT 512MB with the Accelero S1 cooler video card was on sale at Newegg the other day for $199.99 (see hot deals forum). I bought one and it cost me $206 shipped. Several review sites reported that the ECS 8800GT is factory OCed to 650MHz (core)/1900MHz (memory)/1625MHz (shader). I don't think there is a better deal than that.

Wow didn't know about that deal, in that case that was a pretty darn nice card to buy at that price but it seems neither the deal (or even the card) are available at newegg.

The only thing that would hold back a buyer would be the company itself. The company "ECS" does sound a little fishy, not to mention the fact there reputation isnt all that great either. (They are basically a low end motherboard manufacturer where quality could be questioned at times).

ECS isn't fishy, they're one of the top four motherboard makers in the world. They make OEM stuff for companies like HP and Lenovo. I don't think they could screw up the Nvidia reference design, unless they used some shady cost-cutting measure.

The MSI board this thread was started about is at Newegg finally:

Erm, exactly which GV-NX88T512HP did you buy? Gigabyte has two cards with this model number, and both clock the GPU at 700MHz.

The original GV-NX88T512HP has the Zalman VF700-AlCu cooler.

The newer one is GV-NX88T512HP (rev. 1.0). This has the Zalman VF830-Cu cooler, which is available only to OEMs, as far as I can ascertain. It also has overvolting and power saving options.

So, whatcha got?
