If you want this, staples is clearing out these (Cendyne Boxed). My Staples (Mill Creek, WA) had 10 on the shelf at $59 out the door.

OM is also closing them out for $49. Some drives are NEC ND-1300A instead of ND-1100A, which means they are dual format.

Bought two. They are actually an Ebay store with a 99.3% rating. I've been burned before by online merchants. That is what credit card companies are for. They take the risk for you. It may take time, but you will eventually get your money back. Anyway, I will respond when I get the drives. And another thing, this is the only item on that site that was at a decent price.

I bought one of the cendynes at staples a while back and the box did say nec-1100 on the label.

Don't know if the dual format ones say the same, but this drive has been great for me so far. I know that you can use some hacked firmware to make these dual format, or at least that is what I read somewhere. Didn't try it myself as I have a dual format burner already. Didn't want to risk the drive.

I posted this as I've seen these same drives trading in the "For Sale/Trade" for $70 to $90. They even take PP.

Purchased last night and I have already received a USPS Priority tracking number. It may be possible to flash or "hack" this drive to a dual format ND-1300A (dual format -/+). Just google "1100A flash 1300A".

Doesn't work. The 1100A is missing the calibration data for writing to -R discs. Certain disc brands end up being writable by utilizing the DVD+R calibration data, but the discs that are written are mostly garbage.

+R bitset to read DVD-ROM is generally more compatible that DVD-R anyway, so no big loss.

the firmware flash hack isnt right yet...i hope nec will offer a flash for dual format

can anyone recomend a good program for ripping DVD's?

DVD Decryptor seems to work for everyone.

I should go over to OM or Staples and look for one of those DVD burners.

try DVD Shrink, works perfectly for me, never had a bad one yet....and its free.

Got mine in the mail on Thursday. Burned a couple of DVD's with no problem. Flashed to the 1300a firmware for the heck of it. I don't believe it could hurt. Going to try to burn some -R's later. Great Deal!
