Correct, width. I would like to find one that can have the numbers span the whole 6 places across. I'd like to see the clock from across the room.
I have the paid versions of Fancy widgets, Beautiful widgets, and HD widgets and none of them do it. Even with fooling with Nova launcher and changing columns and rows - no dice...

Have you tried a UCCW clock? You should be able to resize it in Nova to any size.

Is the LTE/4G version functionally identical to the WiFi version, such that if you either don't have a data plan or disable the cellular network on the device, it can still use Wifi and behave just like the WiFi model?

Yes, there is no reason why it should act any different.

OK, well I played around with Nova Launcher and Beautiful widgets and got a great clock config. Haven't had the buzzing speaker issue yet.

I wish I could find a clock app that stands the whole with of the screen

I repurposed an Evo 4G into an alarm clock that's always plugged into my Xbox's USB port and found these two to work the best as screen always-on clocks:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tomanyz.lockWatchLight
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.kinst.jakub.clockq

You'll have to tinker with them if you only want the time but I'm almost certain clock-only is an option for both.

As for the new Nexus 7, I haven't put mine through the paces yet while waiting for some stable custom ROMs to come out, but for me the screen alone was enough of a reason to upgrade.

I'm not saying the Nexus is bad, but just look at the sales. Apple will not be surpassed in this market any time soon.

Apple is being surpassed, but you won't see everyone switch from the iPad or iOS overnight. The iPad and iPhone were the first big products in capacitive touch tablets and smartphones, respectively, and it's hard for most users with those products in their possession to switch.

The switch is starting to happen with some users, though, and the longer Apple lags behind on hardware or pace of OS/software updates, the more users will switch to Android devices. This will happen each time there is a delay. They can't just catch up to Android, they need to leapfrog them when the next iPad mini comes out.

iOS 7 should make things steadier for iOS, but if everyone isn't satisfied with it right out of the gate, we could see the first major exodus from one platform to another. And by "major" I mean a few percentage points out of total market share, mostly conversions of consumers who were waiting on iOS 7 before choosing a new device to upgrade to. There's never going to be an overnight switch of people to or from one ecosystem to another, not without a really colossal failure like an update bricking millions of devices (not very likely to happen).

The Nexus 7 doesn't have enough marketing behind it yet. I think word of mouth can increase sales, but not enough people are aware of how good it is. I think there are still plenty of average consumers out there whose last experience on an Android device was pre-Jellybean, and unfortunately that has colored their opinion of Android. We're still seeing people talk about who laggy Android is - even on tech forums - when that's just not the case on 4.1+ devices with stock Android or minimalist custom UIs. Some of the Apple users are coming around, though, when they get their hands on the 2013 Nexus. There needs to be a "This Is Android" campaign where ASUS/Google lets people demo units in various cities.

Apple is indeed being surpassed, slowly. I see it being more just a price issue. Sure, AT forum goers really care about the latest and greatest and hardware specs etc. Most people don't. Not too many people care about what the exact specs and bench results are, just that it works, can do what they need and is fast enough to not see noticeable lag. Apple has been good at that, but the tech is catching up to them and they can't just do the same thing they've always done and charge the prices they've charged.

I'm guessing when the earlier poster said Apple could not be surpassed in this market, he was referring to tablets, not OS. Android has surpassed iOS. But no tablet has surprised the iPad or iPad mini that I'm aware of, or even come close.

Apple sells more iPads, than Samsung, ASUS, and Amazon combined.

From a market share of 60% last year Apple has dropped to 32% year over year. It's not only Samsung, Asus and Amazon.

Saying they "dropped" isn't a good way to put it. Apple sell more tablets than ever and at the same time the overall number of tablets sold has increased even faster, primarily because of sales of lower cost tablets in the $200 range which isn't a market Apple has really competed in.

Apple sold less iPads 2Q 2013 versus 2Q 2012.

Meaning what ? I expect the reason is they had a new product in 2q 2012, 3rd gen ipad(first ipad with Retina display), and not in 2q 2013 but if you think it means something else, what is it ?

That's true, but the 2013 number also includes the Mini, yet that wasn't enough to get it above 2012.

Yup. Samsung and ASUS have been doing well. But clearly the swell in market share is for the vast majority of manufactures that each don't even represent a single percentage of market share, but there are just so many companies making Android hardware.

But the point was that there is no single tablet that even comes close to the sales success of the iPad even though iOS is losing market share to Android.

Apple sold less iPads 2Q 2013 versus 2Q 2012.

The IDC article explains why that is...

"In years past, Apple has launched a new tablet heading into the second quarter, which resulted in strong quarter-over-quarter growth. Now, Apple is expected to launch new tablet products in the second half of the year, a move that better positions it to compete during the holiday season."

The iPad 3 launched March of 2012. So that lead to a very good Q2 2012 for the iPad with a brand new tablet just arriving.

Q2 2013 there was no new tablet, the iPad 4 and Mini arrived November of 2012, so it's momentum had already slowed down by Q2 2013 and customers are now waiting on the new tablets this fall.

Q4 2012 (which the iPad 4 and mini arrived in the middle of) and Q1 2013 were both very good quarters for the iPad versus a year ago. They sold over 7 million more iPad in Q4 versus the previous year and 8 million more during Q1 versus the previous year.

Can anyone talk about their experience reading comics on the new N7? I'm wondering if the screen on this yields a better experience than reading on an ipad 2...

Obviously screen size is bigger on the iPad 2 and larger screens are always preferable over smaller but the screen is MUCH worse than the new Nexus 7 and holding any 10" for an extended period of times gets tiring compared to a smaller one like the Nexus 7.
