I can replicate my GPS issue.

Using GPS Test, it locks immediately after a fresh reboot. However, if I turn off GPS and turn it back on, the GPS refuses to lock.

Anyone else seeing this issue?

This is the only issue I am having. It appears to be software related. The screen is absolutely gorgeous. Anandtech's mini review rates it higher than iPad mini's screen. Bonus on the processor being Snapdragon 300 (not 200 like N4) which is really just a binned 600.

Did you get the 2 updates for it already? There were reports that some devices were getting 2 updates which could alleviate that issue.

I am having GPS lock issue with my new N7. I'll update later in a couple days.
Side by side the old N7 locks immediately.

asus is a retarded company if they managed to screw up a well established technology such as gps on this

I picked up a 16gb model from Staples for $199 earlier today and so far I am incredibly impressed. The screen is awesome, I would consider it a fantastic display for a $400 tablet much less one that is so cheap. Performance is also blazing fast.

I did get the updates as soon as I turned it on. That explains it...

The GPS works fine as long as I don't toggle GPS. A bit inconvenient but I am glad it's only software. I am going to put it to test on a drive in Europe hence why I am testing it religiously.

My local Staples have these puppies and I may take a quick ride to see them in person. I secured the $30 coupon as well so I am really tempted.. so I will see. I had to return/sell my N7 two times last year - once because of price drop within the 14-day period and once when the 3G version (which I settled with) came out. I do not want to go through multiple exchanges for Google's incompetent product releases.

$30 coupon drops the price of 16 GB version to $200 + tax, so at that price this tablet is obviously the best bang-for-the-buck. It's baffling that the one with mobile connectivity will be nearly double the price when it comes out. ($350 + tax)

Said that, I have a few questions.

1. Bluetooth performance, especially with earpieces and car audio. Original N7 had a severe drop-out and skipping problem. How does the new one fare in this regard?
2. Mic support. Last year's N7 had no Mic support whatsoever. It did not support Bluetooth Mic, either. Does the new one support at least Bluetooth Mics? (it is a big deal for video chat or VOIP apps)
3. What kind of glass is used for the screen? Gorilla Glass 2 or 3?

don't go in fully expecting the coupon to be accepted. management has caught on and are denying them.

They are excluding the new Nexus 7 since it's a new device. They don't need justification.

What could be the justification? It's their offer.

Coupon originally supposed to expire 7/27, and the new Nexus 7 wasn't supposed to be sold until 7/30; they weren't expecting retailers to be allowed to break that street date, so they went back and retroactively changed the coupon to exclude the two new Nexus 7 SKUs.

I see. My coupon says expiration date 7/28, so I will see what's going to happen. ^^ Not planning to buy for certain, but just in case. Off to Staples!

I impulse bought one today. I like the 7" form factor, and the screen is pretty nice. But man, the fingerprints.

Got mine at Staples this morning. Kinda ambiguous wording, "expires 7/28/13" ( I'd prefer "valid through" ), so I called ahead to make sure they'd accept the coupon. No problems.

Question: is the gmail app supposed to be the full tablet ui or is it some sort of phablet hybrid? Gmail app on my wife's Nook HD+ with cyanogen is the full tablet ui, but maybe that's because of the larger screen?

What do you mean full tablet ui? You mean where it has the side bar while looking at your email? Just turn the tablet sideways.

Travel back in time, or is the ghost of fusetalk rearing its head?

I think on larger tablets the "full" ui includes labels on the left side when landscape and the message list portrait mode as well.

Anyway, further googling does suggest gmail's ui on the nexus 7 is of the phablet variety. A little strange since it seems the regular email app, by contrast, utilizes the tablet ui.

I will say that the speed difference is immense, I'm sure the 2GB ram helps even more so as well.

I saw it at a local Staples and it is really smooth! Unfortunately they did not have one in stock so I had to be content with the demo unit. Can't say enough how smooth it was. It felt smoother than my Nexus 4 though it probably wasn't a fair comparison. (N7 on Wi-Fi, my N4 on AT&T)

It is also very light, and was a delight to hold. The skinny body did stick out a little, though, for my eyes have not been used to such a shape/ratio.

Got one yesterday, at Staples w/ the coupon, my buddy that works there hooked me up. It's nice, I still have my old nexus 7 and the new is faster, of course, but it isn't night & day. I haven't played any games, though, since I rarely do on a tablet. The display is brighter and more saturated, text is a little sharper. Like I said, it's nice. However, if you have the old Nexus and you aren't a tablet gamer, and you still really like it, the new one isn't a "must buy" IMO.

That aside, I'm keeping the new one and giving the old one to my nephew to use as an ebook reader, so it all works out.

Got one at Staples on Friday with the $30 coupon. It's crazy this thing only cost $199.

Bought one this morning. Not sure if I'm going to keep it. Jury is still out in that respect. First impressions are that the bezels are friggin huge. Similar to looking at a tv screen with large black bars on either side. The screen is crisp though.

On top of the question I asked in my above post (#182), does anyone know whether Stickmount, or USB OTG in general, works on the new N7?
