New Nutrional labels require listing calories and nutrients for the WHOLE package (ie: 2nd column)

This might hurt Costco a little.
health conscious people might not buy that 1lb container of guacamole for their avocado toast because of the bigger #'s displayed.

but it might help fat people trying to lose weight that think serving size = 1 package.

I like it because it's more convenient than calculating it myself and then dividing it again for the actual serving size in use (for example, bought a frozen lasagna recently that had 4.5 servings )

This feels like such a no-brainer I'm amazed its taken this long to become a thing.

Combine it with a "standard minimum" serving size (If discrete items in package = 1 item; if jar 1 TBSP; if Liquid = 1 cup) and we're all set.

Nothing like looking at a jar of peanut butter and seeing a serving size of 1 TSP. God damn no one eats 1 tsp of peanut butter!

I've started buying tomato soup just for a quick lunch once a week, and I have to get the low-sodium variety. You take a regular can of soup off the shelf, look at the nutrition facts, and see 550g of sodium, so you're like, alright, that's a little high but it's not terrible. Then you realize that's only for half of the damn can.

Who eats a half can of soup?

This is a great idea. The arbitrary amounts don't really make any sense especially for items that are meant to be ate in one sitting.

Who opens a a chocolate bar and decides to only eat 4 squares? You eat the whole thing! The label should be for the whole thing.

Even for larger things that arn't meant to be eaten in a single sitting it makes sense as it's much easier to just divide as needed to get the data you want.

I just fell for this the other. I got some protein cookies and it turns out there were THREE servings in a small bag. I definitely thought the whole bag was one serving! Glad I checked
