<< When I click on settings under display properties then click on advanced i get a panel with gf3 ti 200 device selection ect. Then I click on additional properties and get open gl and 3d antailising settings ect.

DO I have the right driver?

I downloaded the update an hour or so ago before nividia said "these are updated now" but it appears I got everything.

I just want to make sure.

Yes, you have the right ones.

Jhill,

You have the updated version which is the 28.32 drivers with the Nvidia control panel,Nvidia have updated their site and now all their drivers will be the right ones, some of us installed the earlier version of the 28.32 drivers that did not have the Nvidia control panel in them, anyway it`s all been corrected now.

Btw I do now have the updated version and they are faster then the old 23.12 ones I was using before ,just need to test them out now on some more games .

I just instaled them and my 3Dmark score went from 9230 to 9520, I'll try some games now and see how they do.

the 28.32s (win98) are losers on my gf3ti500....

3dmark2001se:
28.32 = 8832
27.50 = 8892

all the rest of my gaming benchmarks show the same pattern - lost 2-5fps with the 28.32s.

Maybe my complaining the other day woke these guys up.

To fix the refresh rate problem, edit the config file for all opengl games (usually in the main folder) and override the refresh rate using dxdiag.exe for all directx games. I've been using this method for a while and it works great. No need to run another program to fix it.

Rick67 how do you do that for OpenGL games? What do I need to change in my configs? I mostly play HL and CS.

You need to look for the game folder which is usually in the "Programs" folder and then look for the config file which is usually located inside the "main" folder. The config file should be in there. You will need to edit this file using word or notepad or some other program. Add the line:

seta r_displayrefresh 100

The 100 would be whatever refresh rate your monitor can handle. I've got mine on 100. Close the file and save changes. Also, if you want to fix the tearing you can also add the line:

seta r_swapinterval 1

you can just set the refresh rate for each (desktop) resolution manually from windows and they will hold.

its a pain to set every resolution manually, but it does work and it does hold w/o the use of any 3rd party crap.

ya, but it only works for DirectX, ppl play Opengl games too.

and Rick, that doesn't work for counter-strike, at least not by adding it to the autoexec.cfg or config.cfg files.

<< same thing, no Nvidia tab in display properties...

edit- I'm using Windows98se.
>>

Same here. Of course, I never really use those tabs anyway - that's what Rivatuner is for.

Edit: Ah, ok, I see now that nVidia has updated their site with the right driverfile.

Thanks Rick, but that does not work in half-life. I found out how to edit the .inf file but I think I'll just go back to the 23.11 drivers I was using earlier... they work fine.

What are the best drivers to run on the GF3's???

gunf1ghter - my suggestion works for everything

SpaceWalker - my p4 @ 2465 / gf3ti500 likes the 27.50s the best. 2nd best is the 21.85s.

I've only used the "seta r_displayrefresh 100" and "seta r_swapinterval 1" with Q3, RtCW, and MOH:AA. I thought this would work with all Quake 3 engine games.

Refresh Rate Fix for 28.32 drivers!

Ok not a proper fix as such but it does work!

Download the stereo 3d glasses drivers from nvidia.com and install them.

Once installed reboot. - Go to /windows/sytem32/ directory and delete all nvrs***.* files.(if present)

Now go to nvidia display settings for new "Stereo Properties" tab.

Set "Enabled by hotkey" , click apply, then go to "stereo setup and test" at bottom.
Esc out of square block test.

Set all refresh rates to highest avaible available with sliders - best way is to set 640*480 to max then
click "set rate for all resolutions". Do this for both 16bit and 32 bit.

Now make sure u tick "Always use refresh rate".

Click "OK" and play!

Well, I've installed them. Didn't fix the things I was hoping it would fix. UT still exits kind of funny with the music playing in the background for several seconds before it finally closes. No faster than v27.70 (slightly slower, in fact). Not compatible with nvRefreshrate, but that's not a big deal. I hacked the .inf so all my resolutions are set to 100hz for my desktop and games. I guess I'll just use them for a little while until something else better gets leaked.

If anyone is interested, this is what I'm using for my GF4:

HKR,, NV25_Modes_Delta, %REG_SZ%, "S 640,480,-32,-85-;640,480,-16,-85-;800,600,-32,-85-;800,600,-16,-85-;1024,768,-32,-85-;1024,768,-16,-85-;1152,864,-32,-85-;1152,864,-16,-85-;1600,900,-16,120;1600,900,32,100-;1600,1024,-16,120;1600,1024,32,100-;1600,1200,-16,120;1600,1200,32,100-;1920,1080,-16,120;1920,1080,32,85-;1920,1200,-16,100-;1920,1200,32,72-;1920,1440,-16,85-;1920,1440,32,70-;2048,1536,-16,70-;2048,1536,32,-"

To fix the refresh rate problem, edit the config file for all opengl games (usually in the main folder) and override the refresh rate using dxdiag.exe for all directx games. I've been using this method for a while and it works great. No need to run another program to fix it.

That's not a fix at all as there are only a handful of games that have config files and an even fewer amount that are in an easy editable text format and have a refresh rate control. Regardless, even in those games the command to set the refresh rate is usually always different. Even forcing refresh rates in dxdiag doesn't really work either because you want to always use the highest resolution available to you at a given resolution.

There are three ways to fix the issue:

(1) Edit the driver INF file and remove everything but the highest refresh rate for each resolution (subject to your monitor of course).
(2) Use a utility like RivaTuner that alters your registry and strips away all refresh rates except for the highest one your monitor supports.
(3) Use a memory resident program like Multires which intercepts resolution changes and automatically applies the refresh rate you've selected.
