New Nvidia Drivers

I realize there are multiple threads for this already but I also want to make something I read in the release notes apparent so that people don't have to install, uninstall, and install again.

First off:
64bit Windows Vista 8800 Series Drivers

1-31-07 Windows Vista 8800 Series Drivers- 32bit

32bit Windows Vista 8800 Series Drivers

1-31-07 Windows Vista 8800 Series Drivers- 64bit

In the release notes is states: DirectX 9 and OpenGL NVIDIA SLI support for GeForce 8800 GPUs will be available on January 31, 2007 in a new driver from NVIDIA

Therefore if you can restrain yourself you may want to wait until tomorrow to install the driver as a new WHQL Official Driver will be released then.

It further goes on to say that DX9 and OGL 7 Series as well as SLI 8 series support will be released at a later date.

Hopefully I managed to save some people from installing the 100.54's, uninstalling them tomorrow, and installing the 10x.xx's thereby IMO junking up the fresh new installation.

They did hold true in the fact that they said they would have SOMETHING out today. However, that something wasn't exactly what everyone was hoping for.

So they have "Official Beta" Drivers -_-, but nothing that is WHQL until tomorrow (Or at least what I would think is WHQL tomorrow)

It's good to hear that they claim to have fixed SLI and OpenGL issues. But at this point I'm not believing anything nVidia says.

"We're not going unified shaders" - Unified shaders (Not that that was a bad thing, but still)

"We'll have a driver out for Vista when Vista is available" - Vista available, no drivers.

Oh well. One day isn't going to kill anyone, especially when they've been waiting for how long already? I just thought nVidia would make it top priority to get these out for the Vista launch. Hope the extra day really helps...

On a technicality you're wrong on point 2. Vista globally available Jan 30th. Forceware Drivers for GeForce 8 Series available on the 30th (while not WHQL/full featured they are available).

On the downside we won't have DX10 SLI support for a while longer, probably not until DX10 Software is available. I'm gonna keep my gaming on XP until tomorrow at least anyway, then I can use Vista more.

Meh, still waiting on drivers from ATI/AMD for my TV Wonder 650 also. Lots of good all the stellar media center improvements do when I can't even watch TV. Plenty of companies have lacking driver support right now - if i could get a stable driver for all my components one day late, i'd be happy.

Tomorrows drivers will Support SLI just not with DX 10 games. So that shouldn't be a problem.

I could be wrong, but I don't recall Nvidia ever stating that. I only remember hearing it from Inquirer and stuff like that. But doesn't matter now

SO all in all I guess this is a good thing that we have drivers, but until tomorrow it seems like it is the bare minimum for Vista operation. Hopefully tomorrows release will bring WHQL certified drivers that are fully functional.

I'll update the post ASAP tomorrow when the drivers are posted. If we have any comments on them or anything we can consolidate them into this thread to leave the Video Forum open for things such as: Flaming, Posting, and generally Video Card related issues

Apoppin how long ago was that released. I seem to remember it for Playstation or N64 for something first...is it still an entertaining game?

You shouldn't need Nforce Drivers for Vista from what I have read. But you do bring up a good point- I wonder why we don't see new Nforce drivers yet.

(Does anyone know, just for reference, if AMD has released drivers for their Express chipsets under Vista?)
