It's kinda funny to me how the ATI guys like to poke fun of NVIDIA while they just continue to beat down ATI in all aspects of marketing and sales. They released a new price-point card to fill a void. This is exactly the type of stuff ATI should be doing to make you guys happy, yet you criticize NVIDIA for it. Why? Why not get down on ATI for doing such a poor job with everythihg but enthusiast-level cards?

So like I said, the 7600.

I dont care if newegg is excited, I am not. Which is all that I said. Im sure there will be many budget gamers who want a card for $150 or so. I am not one of them, and never will be. Their two count downs have been nothing for me to get excited about at all. A countdown for the 7900 series would have been much more exciting.

Maybe its either the 7900 ultra w/32 pipes or its a dual VGA 7900.

Why would there be such mystery on the web site for a stupid 7600 card? Why bother?

Edit: ok i looked at the flash on the web site and it appears its all about the 7600 :disgust: bah, i was looking for something really big and all i got was a letdown.

You know Ackmed, we high-end computer enthusiasts are not the only ones targetted by the likes of nVIDIA and ATi, and while 7600's and 7300's mightn't excite us very much, mainstream and budget users have an extremely different viewpoint. Are you saying that mainstream/budget users have no right to excitement, or perhaps you're trying to say they would be disappointed compared to X1600/X1300 (not bloody likely!)?

But it's not, and never has been, has it apoppin? The 6600 series have been stellar performers sales wise and performance wise. They will go down in history as one of the most popular 3D chips ever.

What's even more important to note is that the midrange is exactly where both nVIDIA and ATi derive most of their revenue. These releases, at stellar price points, are excellent for nVIDIA to have out there.

While we may comprise the enthusiast market, there's a much larger part of the market that dwarfs us in comparison: the average user.

Wednesday Happenings - Josh

Today NVIDIA is releasing two new products on the GPU scene. The first is the 7600 GS which is aimed at the sub $149 market. This is based on the same GPU as the 7600 GT, but this one is clocked to 400 MHz core and utilizes 400 MHz DDR-2 (800 MHz effective). It apparently beats out the X1600 XT, but is priced more around the X1600 Pro. What is really nice about this product is that with a core clock of 400 MHz, and the use of TSMC's 90 nm Low-K process, the G73 chip this is based on does not get terribly warm. Most AIB's will probably use a passive cooler with this product, and by doing so they are aiming this product squarely at the HTPC crowd. The 7600 GS has full PureVideo support, and the recent driver updates now support features like inverse telecine in high definition content. This will probably drop the prices on the current 6600 DDR-2 products by a few more dollars, and it does make for a compelling product at that price range.

The second product released today from NVIDIA is the 7300 LE. This is not exactly a new product, as it has been an OEM offering for some time. The 7300 LE uses the same GPU as the recently reviewed 7300 GS, but it is clocked down to 450 MHz vs. the 550 MHz of the GS. It also features slower DDR-2 memory, but AIB's will get to decide how much it will get. This product is aimed at the sub $79 level, and still represents a significant performance increase over integrated graphics. This will probably totally displace the 6200 TC series in the next few months.

These two budget oriented products from NVIDIA have helped to flesh out the lower end GeForce 7 series of cards, and they certainly make for some solid gaming and video playback experiences at each price point. NVIDIA has been very aggressive as of late in competing with ATI's products across the board, and so far it appears as if they have done well. Needless to say, the choice of products across every price point is quite good from both manufacturers, and the competition is always exciting to watch.

ANYway . .

Geforce 7300 GS not selling well . . . Not fast for gaming, too expensive for desktop

NVIDIA partners have been complaining that Geforce 7300 GS is not doing that well. They blame the high price and lack of real performance. Same sources confirmed that X1300 and its variations are dominating the market at the moment and that they are trying to make the right move to make 7300 GS more attractive.

I guess it is a little bit clearer now as Nvidia plans to introduce the new GPU at the $99 range and will certainly drop the price of the 7300 GS at the place where it belongs.

This might fix Nvidia's position in the market, as the firm has heavily suffered from launched products in the high end that it can not constantly ship. The demand is too high, as it likes to say.

ATI has been very aggressive on the pricing front and 7300GS actually competes significantly faster X1600 PRO as you can buy this ATI card for the same money. You will get a 128MB card but it will still end up faster than 7300 GS.

On the fourth of April, the Geforce 7300 GT will change a thing or two for Nvidia and will make its position stronger, but ATI is playing the dirty game of price dropping so it might drop the price of X1600 PRO even more to scupper Nvidia's pricing.

i'd say there is still a 'hole'. . . . and ati is there to counter the backfill
