Yeah, a cheap labor. Wolfenstein is a CPU limited game that doesn't challenge enough the GPU. Always posting the same thing from Techreport, are u in love with that page? I wonder why.

You said "worst case" 10%. I proved you wrong.

I don't even know if that was the worst case as it was merely the first review I checked. I bet I can find greater than 10% on other sites as well. In fact just to humor you...
http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-5870-review-test/20

Looks like the 285 is pretty close to beating the 5870. Maybe that's what you meant by 10%

So go ahead and attack me or Tech Report (or Guru3D) or the whole world if it makes you feel better. You still won't be any less wrong.

Can we now stop with the personal attacks and side tracks and go back on topic?

I stand by my statements about the rumors and those rumors have already been discussed in other threads on this forum. Feel free to read through them.

Another game that uses a DX9 engine which isn't challenging enough, heck, my brothers in law can max it at 1280x1024 with 4x FSAA.

HD 5870 made a world of difference compared to the lousy GTX 285. They're not even in the same league. Heck, even an HD 4890 smokes it.

Performance -- Well it's grand really. Some titles like Fallout 3 I expected to see a little better scaling but the generic consensus is that the Radeon HD 5870 is MUCH faster than the current leading flagship, the GeForce GTX 285. In fact on occasion it's even faster here and there than a GeForce GTX 295. See this is not a measly small upgrade, no Sir. ATI doubled up everything on the Radeon HD 5870 making sure you will get a grand gaming experience. And oh my gawd, I just realized what a beast the 5870 X2 will be.

There's games that will not challenge a GPU enough and it will not make a big difference because its more CPU limited, but games that are challenging proves that there's more raw power to untap with the latest generations and that ATi's architecture approach is better in the long term, the same thing happened with the GeForce 7 vs Radeon X1K which the latter now in current games is twice faster (Both are slow by today standards). And with newer games that are shader intensive like Arma 2 runs faster in HD 4890 than the GTX 285.

I've used 2 different games and 2 different sites. Shall we go for 3? Also if the CPU was limiting these games then the benchmark scores would be closer for each card and they are not.

I'm not sure you can dig yourself into a deeper hole. All you are doing is spinning and back pedaling.

Either way we will find out just how close the rumors are next month. I'm sure you will be in a similar state of denial though. I've proved my point and won't be baited further by you.

Hey look, a 4870x2 beats a gtx295 in the same article you linked:

I guess Nvidia better hurry up with fermi, since they lost last gen and are way too late this time.

Fermi will be here next month.

GTX360 will be as fast or faster than a single chip 5870
GTX380 will be as fast or faster than the dual chip 5890
GTX380x2 in April? Faster than anything imaginable.

These are based on the rumors I read in and around CES.

Not just a doubling of hardware specs but a radically new architecture.

I have $100 via paypal if gtx380 is faster than a 5970. Put your money where your mouth is with such ridiculous crap.

No kidding. I'm in on that too Wreckage. First we have to explicitly define what he means by 'beat' because I have a feeling he might spin the 380 as 'beating' the 5970 if it outperforms in a single game. If it doesn't, he'll claim he meant IQ (another subjective metric), or that Physx makes it win over the 5970. Look, I have had a great experience with Nvidia and love their cards, but the prospect of the single GPU flagship Fermi beating the the 5970 is ludicrous.

We can't stop feeding the troll, why not ban it?

Well I said as fast or faster. So if I find a few benchmarks where the GTX380 beats the 5970 do I get $100 or will you rule out everything just to avoid paying?

To be honest I would not be surprised to even see the GTX360 take a few against the 5970 based on what I have read so far.

Also note that we are discussing rumors here, I'm not sure why everyone is getting so upset pre-launch (unless they own stock or something).

well they have to leave plenty of space to re-brand the g92 which will cover most of the 3xx series so fermi had to be bumped to 4xx

faster means it wins more than 50% of benchmarks. I know that's still a little ambiguous because one can pick and choose benchmarks, but...

Disqualified, the intent was for a *Fermi* based product to beat a 5 series. By definition the DX10 version will do as poorly in DX11 benchmarks as the ATI cards handle PhysX, so both lose to each other.

The bet was "$100 via paypal if gtx380 is faster than a 5970."

Thus the benchmark I linked would be valid.

I'll do that as well $100 via paypal if the 380 or the 360 are as fast or faster than a 5970.

It's about time you were removed from around here with your purposeful inflammatory rubbish. And no I could care less about physx, 3dvision or any of the rest of that crap, my last setup was nv and that stuff is all underwhelming.

I'm talking framerates in games, whatever resolution. Not one canned cherry picked situational benchmark. I'll leave it to the rest of the forum users even to provide consensus on if it's reasonable to say either of nv's new single chip cards match up or exceed the 5970.

$100

The 360 and 380 will not be Fermi and may not even exist, so don't bother placing those bets or bringing them up. We already know how the last gen fares vs. ATI's current gen. It might be possible for a 295 built on 40nm process to touch a 5970, but so what?

The cards of interest are the GTX470 and GTX480 -- whether those stack up against even a single 5870 (or the refresh undoubtedly on the way) is the interesting question.

Another burning question is whether the venerable 8800GTS will be re-stickered for two more generations. GTS340 and GTS430, anyone?

I got tired of waiting. I switched camps and ordered an HD5850 for an i5-750 setup. I haven't used ATI in 8 years, so I'm curious to see the difference. I passed the 8800GT onto my son So instead of re-stickering I just left a system with XP and he's having a blast.

The 5870 I bought was the first ATI I've ever had. Been die-hard Nvidia since a little tike but there was a great deal on it and got tired of waiting as well and all the speculation so this should hold me over until next gen fairly well since this is the most I've ever spent for a video card.
