It's already pushing 80, thunderstorms are in the forecast, peak temperature is a little below 90, so the T-storms are probably mid-afternoon (which is pretty normal). That means I'll either be stuck inside unable to see them, or stuck driving through them, which is worse.

I saw a Mazda 6s yesterday, an 02-07, sitting the grocery store. It looked good, narrow, shorter, and taller than my car, and, well, cuter, a word which I hate to use for a car I might buy. The styling, including the forwards lean angle, was just a little too aggressive to be fully called cute.

The headlights look a bit silly. Three or four bulbs in each capsule. I want two, maximum three, and one of those should be invisible behind a color reflector.

But that's a very minor gripe.

I think it uses 16" tires. Yes, 17" looks better, but it's cheaper to use 16". And it's faster to use smaller wheels too. The only reason to go large is for looks or brakes, and I don't suspect brakes would be the problem.

I know the 6 comes with stock tires that are absolutely terrible.

In purchasing one of those, it would immediately need another set of four wheels, and eight tires - four for snow, four for summer.

I think it's either 215 or 225, which could go a little wider.

Maybe 235? 245 would probably be pushing the limits of the wheel wells and steering.

It's already a sharp handler, but the limits are clearly in the tires. I took one on a highway ramp, and the tires started squalling before anything felt sloppy.

And actually, they didn't so much squall as chirp, meaning they were breaking free and then biting again. The tires on my Grand Prix start to howl before they chirp, which is a helpful ability.

The Mazda 6s's exhaust system is a hilarious piece of shit. Two headers, one for each bank of three cylinders. Each header includes a catalytic converter, pointing straight down to a 90 elbow, which links to another catalytic converter, and another 90 elbow, and then heads off to the mufflers.

The backpressure is terrible.

And wow, headers with cats are about $1500+, probably $2000 after installation.

It was quicker than my car, despite having similar engine stats, because of the eight year newer six speed auto instead of a four speed.
