The item must be identical. For example, it must have the same U.S. manufacturer's warranty. It must also have the same model number and contain the same components. As another example, for pagers and wireless phones, the service plan, service provider, and other terms must be the same.

___

That's why - a gray market item isn't always identical - frequently things are missing.

Yeah, but that website "claims" their items are not grey market. Now I kinow the site looks a little shady, but I ordered my current digital camera from a site much like this one and it came in manufactures box with all original items. My point is that staples just seems to make things up as they go, if the don't honor pricematches with companies that are not authorized resellers then they should say that plain and simple in ther policy.

Wow, great deal. I wish there was something like this in the Spring when I bought my Canon S30 which I paid $465 total on Ebay for.

I just called; the CSR told me Allhomeelectronics is on their list of non-approved vendors.

Not quite sure how you managed to pull off those PMs online or over the phone; I tried a few times with no luck. The CSRs could never get through, the phone was always busy. Guess I should try again, a Canon S330 for less than $200 is way too good to pass up

Wonder how Staples feels about the fact that they are not on the Olympus "authorized reseller" list. I am making the assumption by going to Olympus.com and going to find a dealer near you. I have about 6 Staples within 50 miles of me, yet they do not show up on the list. I actually emailed Olympus to get an authorized reseller list. Will let you know if I am correct. Seems to me if Staples is not an authorized reseller that they cannot deny a pricematch from any company that sells NON-grey market Olympus products. Just my two cents. The more I learn about Staples business practices the more I hate them. All this comming from a guy who got the pricematch to work.

I'm starting to think that anyone selling it cheaper that staples is not an authorized dealer

be careful guys you don't wanna kill the goose that lay the golden egg. If Staples' CSR won't PM or give you crap, just say thank you, hang up and dial again till you got one that will or just let it go. Plenty of deals coming, especially around christmas.

No go....Staples will not pricematch this place as "it is not a competitor nor an authorized reseller." Definately YMMV on this one.

I'm a huge Olympus fan (their lenses can't be beat!), but I think I'd skip this camera. It uses Smart Media rather than their new xD memory format (about the size of a MMC card, and compatible with compact flash with an adapter + comes in high capacity sizes). Strange that Olympus is pushing this new format, but their new product isn't using it. Wierd---must have been a holdover design that was late to market.

Yep, it all depends on how lucky you are. Online CSRs wouldn't pricematch Abe's of Maine - a shady Brooklyn shop, but nevertheless an authorized Nikon dealer. Their reason for that? "They are not authorized, I don't care what it says on the Nikon's site, they are cheaper than us therefore they are not authorized." BLEH. But there's a little trick: buy the camera at full price or PM it with some expensive place, and then call Staples and have them PM it with a cheaper retailer. The reps that do price adjustments are much more lenient than the ones that take orders. If you're a ferengi with no conscience, you can PM it again at a B&M store (the online price adjustment will not show up on the invoice), but that would be illegal and can get you a date with bubba at your local jail

I'm curious about the following clause in their pricematch policy:

Available coupons and rebates will be deducted from the Staples price to come up with a net Staples price when calculating the price match. For example, if you buy an item from us for $100, and we offer a $20 rebate, the net price is $80. If the item is available from another company for $80 or more, there will be no price match. Another example would be if you buy an item from us for $159 and you have a $30 coupon the net price is $129. If the item is available from another company for $125, the price match will be for $4.40 (110% of the difference).

Couldn't a CSR say, "If you're going to use a $30 off $200 coupon on this pricematched item then we are going to charge you $250 instead of $220 because the resulting cost would still be lower then the price of the competitor"?

I called to attempt this deal on my own and was told that both CompDirect.com and All Home Electronics were not authorized resellers. I attempted to point out that according to the Olympus Store Finder, Staples is not an authorized reseller, but the CSR was quite certain that Staples receives their stock directly from the vendor. She was actually quite short with me even though I made a special attempt to be especially pleasent.

I'm going to wait for a better deal, but for any of ya'll who just have your hearts set on this camera right now, the cheapest "Authorized Reseller" I've been able to find online is HERE for $364. You can use the $40 off $200 and $10 off $50 found on THIS RECEIPT (should be valid through Nov 30) for a final total of $300 before tax and shipping.

Still the best deal out there.

What deal did you manage to get from Office Max? All the conversation I have seen has resolved around Staples.

YMMV! There is stated clearly on OM's policy that OM will only PM with local vendors like COmpUSA, BestBuy, Office Depot, and Staples, etc.

I PM'd compdirect at officemax on Friday and got the email this morning: matched at $324 + $49 next day shipping at compdirect. I also used a $50 off $250 coupon (found it while hunting for a deal ) + tax = $352 shipped.

Not as great as the Staples deal, but still an awesome price, plus it didn't involve any hassles or wasted time at all. The nearby Staples is OOS anyways.
