just came out about 45 min ago. I went there to d/l the ssse3 app for my new T7250 lappy and struck gold! yes, there is now an sse4.1 app, too!!!

edit: 5/12 This app appears to have about a 40% improvement over the v2.4 optimized app on sse4.1-capable cpus (all current intel 45nm). I don't have any personal evidence on other systems, but it appears to have had a similar impact on sse3 amd cpus (which admittedly weren't getting much of a bump from v2.4) and ssse3 core-2 cpus. This is on top of the ~ 25% increase on ssse3 cpus and ~5-10% increase on amd cpus from the v2.4 optimized app.

in case the lunatics site is down, crunch3r has a backup:

too much load on the site, I can't acces it... I hope they have new SSE3 or SSE4a apps for AMD, which will make the Phenom a top player!

they still have an ssse3 version (core2 based cpus/ 65nm intel). this new app supports sse3 with amd, which is a HUGE bonus in my book since the crunch3r/kwsn app v 2.4 didn't support amd above sse2. intel still has the advantage with ssse3 for core 2 and, especially, with sse4.1 for penryn-based 45nm cpus...

I am very interested to see how well it works vs the old v2.4 from kwsn. I noticed several C increase in temp going from regular boinc to the old v2.4, but I haven't noticed any increase in temp going to this new version. Hopefully it's just more efficient without generating any more heat...

non SSE apps consume less power than SSE apps.

I know, that's why I'm worried that the new client won't show a huge improvement going from ssse3 for c2d up to sse4.1 for my yorkfields. Hopefully there will be a very big improvement. That would help me to hold out from buying mom a quad until the 45nm's get below $200...

well, the numbers are still very preliminary, but I'm getting wu's done a LOT faster with my x3350 than I was before. possibly as much as 50%...this could be very good. My T7250 is also cranking out wu's much faster than I anticipated, though it's only done a few thus far so it's hard to make a concrete prediction yet on it.

yeah... i'm getting the same results.... wu going much faster. also before I first loaded the new ap onto a couple of my computers, I took note of rate of decrement of time in the task... once I loaded the new ap, the task that were still going under the old ap were now going almost twice as fast with the new aps... i was watching the timer consistently decrement in 2 second intervals every second.... it's definately going faster..

in another week we should have good data on how much faster it is or not.

damnit...I was hoping you wouldn't see this

That's ok, my % of total computing power that is 45nm quads is much higher than yours!!! now I'll be up to, um, 27% of your output instead of 26% !!

Just read this from the lunatics.kwsn.net site. This was written by Jason G, one of the guys who ported this over from, uh, wherever it was before. He was also one of the authors of the old kwsn v2.4 that we've been using for the past 6 mos or so:

"This release offers significantly improved performance for SSE3 capable (or Higher) PC's Running either 32 or 64 Bit versions of Windows. (Sorry, no SSE2 or less at this stage, we are investigating this possibility for the near future)."

for the rest of his explanation, go here: http://lunatics.kwsn.net/discu...-alex-kans-v8-0.0.html

Based upon the preliminary results that dajeepster, sir ulli, and I have gotten I must agree with Jason G's statement.

We need to get in touch with all of our crunchers and get this app downloaded asap!

Sweet!

Pitty that all my SETI fleet is remote & I can't access them soon!

Btw from which CPUs did AMD have SSE3?

btw, installation on these apps is a snap. you don't need 7-zip or anything crazy this time, you just unzip the downloaded file and cut/paste the "files to install" folder contents to the seti@home directory in boinc.

I think that you're safe as long as the sse3 optimizations don't introduce a 500% increase...

each cpu family shows which version of sse/etc it supports. cpu-z will also tell you on a specific computer if you can access it.

Cool, should be at least a couple of machines I can upgrade (they are latter 90nm AMD rigs).
