The Optorite CD burner I bought is terrible. Supposedly it's a 40x, but it has never burnt at that speed in it's (short) lifetime with 3 different 40x media makers. It recently burned nothing but coasters at 32x, and some coasters at 8x. Mind you, it burnt the image, but then verification failed. The 32x failed right after the warranty period was over; nice engineering, but on a different level $20 down the drain (I did get the rebate), but much much aggrevation.
I am currently back to my trusty old 8x Plextor. Never have I burnt a coaster with the Plextor, and it's been many hundred discs.

Does that represent all optorite devices? No. But it's one more "You get what you pay for" experiences in my limited exposure to Optorite products. I won't buy their stuff again.

From what I read about optorite DVD Burners. I have heard of quite a few Duds out of the box. But When you get a working drive they are realy excellent proformers. I think its worth the risk and I am buying one with my next paycheck.

I bought a Optorite dual dvd burner from pcsupplysource.com and I have yet to be dissapointed with the drive, I haven't made one bad dvd or cd. With any product though, there will always be a dud once in awhile. Just make sure you download the latest firmware off their website.

It's $143.75 + Tax by the time you are done with UPS Ground Shipping. Better off to get it from Livewherehouse for $149 with free Priority Mail (they sent mine Fedex 2-day).

I have had a DD0203 for about a week, I made one coaster. I tried burning a VCD onto an Imation Colored CDR, The media is so thin you can almost see through it. Other than that everything else I have burned has been great. Just made sure when I got it that The firmware and Nero are up to date.

My Optorite(Digital Research) CD burner also died after a few months(I think I got it in mar or april and it died last month). It worked great until the burner part of it stopped working. My Memorex CD burner did this exact same thing and I even returned it to Memorex for an RMA and they said nothing was wrong with it although a fat stack of coasters told me different. The Optorite and Memorex still work fine as readers but I need a burner.

I too am back to my trusty 8x Plextor until my new $60 52x Plextor(from newegg) shows up later this week.

Optorite is not worth the hassle.

"The Optorite CD burner I bought is terrible"

I think this thread was referring to the Optorite DVD burner. I own it, and it performs flawlessly.

I noticed people who complain about this bruner don't state they tried different media, their system config. or if a different burner works better.

I now know 5 people that have bought optowrite 4x +/- burners.....burned easily over 100+ DVD "Backups" and no complaints......well, other than some cheapo Princo 1x DVD media not working......

Livewarehouse is a crappy vendor...shipping is horrible and RMAing is next to impossible...I know many who have bad luck with them...I would stay away....get a good vendor and stick with them

I tested this drive out and for the most part it was ok. It DOES HAVE A KNOW ISSUE WITH DVDXCOPY & DVDXCOPY GOLD. They suggested that I use DXDXpress but that kinda sucks if you already bought the others. This is a decent deal bit I would still suggest getting the Sony Dru-510A if you want a GOOD burner.

Why use DVDXCopy when DVDShrink is nearly as easy to use, gives you more features, and is FREE? And none of these silly imcompatibilities.
