New or beta AMD Drivers?

I am having this "black screen " issue with Asus R290. Latest drivers didn't solve the issue. There is a beta driver on the AMD site, but it's older than the current drivers.

There will be a new 14 v release from AMD , but i guess its months away.

Will there be another small driver release? or is there a better beta driver than the one on the site?

This "black screen" issue is so annoying, it rendered my computer almost useless.

14.1 is a janurary release. It should be out very soon.

What is the black screen issue? It could very well be a hardware issue.

Monitor goes to a "black screen" or turns itself off .

I did a little google search. It is a very common issue. AMD says, they are aware of the issue , and working on it. But the latest drivers still has the problem.

I did a burnintest. MSI kombustor + prime95 worked half an hour without a problem. Also memtest+ completes without errors.
This maybe a hardware issue, but so far, looks like a drivers issue. Some games work without a problem. Heaven benchmark almost always ends up with a "black screen"

I'm experiencing this issue too, so I'm relieved to not be the only one.

There are lots of users experiencing this problem. Seems very common. Some users tought this is a hardware issue and RMA'ed the card, only to find out the new card has the same problem too. So until i am sure my card is faulty, i am not going to send it back.

Using the "live update " on the latest Asus GPU tweak application causes the screen to behaive abnormally. (live flicking of the screen, corrupted windows sounds )

is it the same on your card?

No I have a sapphire card but with every driver update it got worst.

I have 5x Radeon 290s (XFX Reference, Sapphire Tri-X, MSI Gaming) and none of them exhibit the symptoms you describe.

Various Catalyst betas and 13.12 on the main rig.

There are lots theories, on which cards these problems occur. Some say, it only occurs cards with Elphine brand memories.

So , i guess you are lucky.

I've seen a few time that unchecking/disabling overdrive in the catalyst control center fixes the problem... Not just returning it to stock clocks just to be clear. Perhaps you could try that. I have been following this issue closely as i want to get dual 290s....

I tried that , sadly didn't work.

New drivers maybe out before the end of this month. Hope that fixes the problem.

13.30 APU betas just hit yesterday. These are what AMD used at CES. They support dedicated cards not just the new APUs. They are 500mb and have system drivers on them as well.

I had a card with elpida memory and i did not have any black screen issues.

Actually, i don't know. People trying to explain it with memory brand differences, because that's the only hardware difference they can tell with an application.
Probably there are more hardware variances between different manufacturers ,series.

Also , it maybe a more heterogeneous problem. Maybe some of them have nothing to do with drivers, just non functioning hardware . But in my case, if it was a nunfunctioning hardware, it would present itself on graphics burnin tests like msi kombuster.

i'll try the new drives, and if they dont solve the problem . I'll RMA it. The problem is RMA is a very difficult process in some countries.

I'm just letting you and other members know that it might not be the elpida memory causing the issue.

I think it something else in the system itself.

Well its a graphics card issue for me because now i have an nvidia card and no longer have that issue.

Man something like Physx would be pretty incredible on an APU.

Seems too much like a pipe dream to me though. If they're going to deliver on it, they need to buckle down with developers like they are with Mantle. And Nvidia does with Physx, GameWorks. If they take the lazy way like they usually do, HSA accelerated physics will go absolutely nowhere.

I think , i found a way to replicate this "black screen " problem.

Running Heaven benchmark for almost an hour a few times didnt cause a problem.
But once i started MSI Afterburner, same benchmark caused a "black screen" .
Everytime i get a black screen or BSOD , a similar software (hwmonitor, cputem,gpu tweak ) is running. If i dont start those applications ,system works without any problem.

So i guess this is a driver problem???
