Yesterday? Try 1997, as that's when Linux started becoming well known in tech circles. Big businesses started using it in 1999, and now almost everyone has at least heard of it.

Unfortunately, there is STILL almost no commercial desktop software available for Linux, at least when you compare it to Windows or MacOS. And, if you ask Joe Smoe if he's ever USED Linux, odds are that he'll say no. He doesn't know that his Tivo and most of his favorite web sites already use Linux, and he probably doesn't care.
