hey gang, it's been a while since i've built a new pc. i build a new pc every 5/6 years and then i don't really mess with the hardware that much. that said, i'd love some recommendations, here's answers to the questions to aid in feedback:

1. What YOUR PC will be used for: mostly office work with many applications opened at once. i also do some video editing which my current pc seems to be struggling a little bit with (hence the reason for this post). so it should have enough horsepower to not be bogged down when im surfing the web and editing videos while listening to music.

2. What YOUR budget is. around 1,000 but this is flexible. if it makes sense to pay more, thats fine...if i can save money by paying less and not have sacrifice performance, that's cool too

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from: USA

4. IF you're buying parts OUTSIDE the US, please post a link to the vendor you'll be buying from.
We can't be expected to scour the internet on your behalf, chasing down deals in your specific country... Again, help us, help YOU.

5. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.: no preference

6. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are: perhaps i can recycle an older lian-li case similar to this one (https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16811112304). it has floppy disks bays...not sure if it's worth keeping..you guys tell me

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.: no plans to overclock

8. What resolution, not monitor size, will you be using?: right now im using 2560 x 1080. i might upgrade to a larger or double monitor system in the future but no immediate plans for that

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?: flexible. i can start in the next few weeks or give it a few months.

10. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software?: i'll need windows and office

any suggestions appreciated. thanks in advance!

Heya,

Video editing software can benefit CUDA from a GPU, or you can just put your eggs into a big CPU basket and go that route. Up to you for preference. Ultimately the GPU will do nothing for your machine other than potentially help with video editing, otherwise, its a big sink in cost while a CPU will be useful for everything you do. I think you can find nVidia 1650's for an ok price still, if you want to use GPU for video editing.

Ryzen (AMD) is so hard to build with right now due to market shortages and price problems. So if you're in a rush, it may need to be Intel just to get something working without a huge compromise. Something like the i5 10400F CPU (Intel) could be a good budget option for this. Or jump up to i7 10700F for more cores/threads. And finally half your budget for something like an i9 10900F/K for 10 cores / 20 threads.

You'll have to compare the specific video editing software you use and the speeds obtained with various CPUs that are options for you vs which GPUs, and see which is worth your time & money more over.

Other than that, copious memory (32Gb is cheap these days) and SSD (1~2TB, fast SSD is important to help rapidly load your video into memory to be edited). You'll want DDR4 but the speed and all of the memory depends on what platform you go with (Intel vs AMD).

But that should at least get the conversation started...

Very best,

hey MalVeauX, thank you for you input.

right now ive been using camtasia and also photoshop for image editing.

i'm wondering if it makes sense to go 64gb memory since i always end up putting more in a year or so later. i tend to run a lot of applications at once.
