new PC build won't POST?

I just put together my Chaintech VNF-350, A64 2800+, PNY 6600GT, 512MB Crucial RAM (1 stick now, another 512MB coming later), DVD burner, 120 GB Western Digi HD, and Antec Power Supply.....and my baby won't POST!

I've tried moving and reseating the RAM, tried a backup PSU I have lying around, swapped my AGP 6600 GT for my old Ti4200, and have even switched out the floppy drive with a backup I had laying about as well....no POST.

Does this DEFINITELY mean that either my new mobo or new 2800+ chip is the culprit?

I've had the board and chip from newegg for a couple of months now, so I won't be able to return them, and doing a warranty repair is not high on my "ideal solution" list.

How do I determine what the culrpit is either way..?...do I have to take it in to a local shop and have them run a diagnostic? I'd rather save the $30 or so if I can.

Thanks for any and all help, I'm just dying to get this thing up and running!

There is a small chance this is it. But check the power setting on your power supply in the back of it. There should be two settings one is like 120 and the other is something else. One is basically for european outlets and one for american. I remember when I bought a new computer mine had that problem and I could not figure out what was going on until I checked that setting. I think it did boot though... just something to look at.

Did you use protection when you assembled everything? What I mean is were you properly grounded and such...? Static E could of fried something, unplug everything except the necessities and see if it POSTs. If not as least you narrowed it down to 3-4 things.

you should be able to post with CPU, ram and Power supply. Listen for the beeps and decode per the manual. I would then add a Vid card, then HD and see what happens. I'm not claiming to be an expert at this, but things that have worked in the past for me.

Just tried booting with just floppy and HD and Vid Card...no DVD, just 1 stick of RAM in DIMM slot 1....all I get is the fans spinning on heatsink and in case, oh..and the fan on my Ti4200 is spinning....but no beep...no screen display...nothing...sigh

PSU is set correctly to 110.

Guess I gotta wait to have it diagnosed tomorrow..?

oh man...no Battlefield 2 or Rainbow Six: Iron Wrath for me! lol

thanks for your replies,

1. CPU
2. RAM
3. Video card

Make sure the CMOS jumper is in the correct position. I had an ABIT MB whose cmos jumper pins were opposite of what the manual said, so you might try starting it in both positions. (some MB manuals say starting the computer with the cmos jumper in the wrong position can cause damage, but it's never happened to me).

Spinning fans but no POST was what I was getting when my CMOS jumper was set incorrectly. I'd definitely suggest checking that next.

It can't be the video card. You can rule that out.

It could be the CPU, but I doubt it. I'm guessing you already tried re-seating it (and the hsf). If not, do it, now.

Try resetting the CMOS jumper. Also try re-seating the CMOS battery.

If you have any spare memory, try using that instead. Anything will do, even old PC1600 memory. You could also try seating your memory in a different slot.

Good luck.
