Makes sense to me, Computers are great write off's during taxes.

Then why didn't you wait until those quad core opteron based systems come out? I'm sure that will cut you encoding time much more than some 4400+ processor...

Hrmm, I still smell jealousy. But anyway, Quad core? I had no idea. But now that you mention it, I'll look into it. I don't mind passing down my current rig to my wife.

I'm sure they're high quality but I doubt they're "the best".

Well, they certainly are serving they're purpose.

I like to use RAID-0, because I dont care about my data on my gaming rig. I figure if I'm going to use two hard drives why not combine the size into one drive and get some additional speed out of them.

If you dont know what RAID is, a RAID array has 5 levels of configuration. Ranging from RAID-0, which is called striping and is a performance enhancing config but doubles your chance of losing all your data.

RAID1 is mirroring, it saves every bit of data on both drives. RAID 2-5 are combos of these and increase the number of drives used for added speed or added redundancy.

The improvements are usually in the 20-30% area, but I use two 200GB drives anyway, so why not run raid-0. Thats my mentality at least. If i lose my pron and quake4 saved games, its not a big deal.

I do a backup to my dvd every year anyway for my documents ect.

Why is that funny? It just shows I have better money management than both of you... Both fscking idiots, if I had hardware that was similar to both of you, it'd make me a hypocrite...

Fixed for looney,
is that better? Is it?

Did you ever think that maybe OP needed a computer and doesn't need/want the absolute latest and greatest? It could be that it will last him just fine for YEARS. For instance, a couple of months ago I got a Canon 20d. Which is my first DSLR. I knew that sometime this spring a replacement will likely come out. I bought it anyway because those several months of extra shooting time was WAY more important to me than looking cool on the internet.

Nice system. I just built my new system a week ago and my wiring looks like crap also. But I'm going to fix it this weekend. It helps on cooling your system with better air flow. Take some time and tidy up the wires.

Not impressed, you spent money on a system that will be quickly outdated with the release of socket AM2, your wiring sucks, you bought a 250GB drive which is IMO not exactly a good price point (unless of course you got it with rebate/discount which I doubt). You have yet to answer the question, are you finnish or did a finnish person assemble your system...

Lol, that's the dummest $hit I have ever heard from anyone on this board. And believe me, I have seen lots of dumb $hit around here. You obviously don't know what your talking about. By the way, I glanced through your systems (in your sig) and I wasn't impressed myself. If theres one person on this board that needs an upgrade, it surely is YOU. Oh and AM2 can kiss my a$$.

I'm going to have to agree with that entire statement. The only thing missing from it is...STFU b!tch!

get some cable management, it looks like a rats-nest right smack in the middle of the window

also, the 4th and 5th pics are sideways, I have to turn my head to look at them - windows has a nifty little "rotate" button....

I WOULD be jealous if I was broke, but because I'm NOT broke, I therefore can't be jealous as I too could build a system like that, either with my money I have in the bank or with my dad's money. You see my birthday and hanukkah has passed and guess what I got? Some clothing, a wind up flash light and a $500 coin (the coin was my only B-day present). Now sure it may LOOK like I'm being a martyr but I'm not, and do you know why? It's because my parents asked me if I wanted anything and I pretty much said, "I can't think of anything at the moment". So this season has passed and I've yet to get anything, do I feel sad for my self? Sure I do, but not in the sense YOU'RE thinking of, I'm sad because I've yet to have time to get my place organized and cleaned up, therefore not having room even if I DID ask for something. I've been so busy with school, presents/toys of this sort are a low priority. But to be perfectly honest, if I had the opportunity to ask them what to get for my B-day or for hanukkah, it would have been a nice TV..

This post explains it all. Kids. :disgust:

I actually had a big mouth and said the same ... I don't consider myself to be a wiring expert and definitely would consider learning...

Can somebody tell me where they found resources about learning how to wire?
Please don't say it is common sense because it not always is.
