Hey all, here is a little backround first. I decided that I would help a friend get a new pc. He wanted something for gaming and I helped him get the list below.

Antec Sonata III 500 Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply - Retail
SAMSUNG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model SH-S223Q/BEBN - OEM
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
EVGA 512-P3-N845-AR GeForce 8800GTS (G92) KO 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail
CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-6400C5 - Retail
ASUS P5Q LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8400 - Retail

Now I have everything together and trying to get it to post for the first time, I plug everything together and fire it up. I get one long continous beep. Did a little digging and find that I forgot to put power to the EVGA card (oops!).

After plugging in the card, I repower it up. I get nothing, no beeps, no post no video what so ever.

At this point I'm a little stumped but no big deal I think, I remove the hd, dvd, and just try to boot up the ram, cpu and vid. I get nothing again, no post no beeps.

At this point I double check my cpu and make sure that is all fine. Its all seated and has no issues that I can tell.

I remove one stick of ram and nothing changes.

I remove ALL the ram and still nothing changes.

At this point I am thinking I probably got bad ram, but before I return it to newegg to get some new sticks I wanted to get a second opinion. Any idea's?

Thanks!

I don't know about you or anyone else, but I build my barebone out of the case and won't put it in a case until I make sure it's working & stable.

Make sure there's no extra standoff shorting out the mobo.

Triple-check your cable connections. Specially, 4/8-pin cpu, 24-pin mobo, 6-pin pci-e and cpu fan.

Unplug power cord, take battery out, clear cmos, put battery in, try each ram stick in each slot, load bios defaults once the pc posts.

If still no post, I'm afraid you have to take it down, move the barebone of the mobo with cpu, ram & gpu to the mobo box, hook up everything, short the PWRSW pins with the tip of a ballpen.

If still no post, time to rma the mobo & ram just in case.

Normally I do the same. In this case I just didnt have the opportunity or space to do so. I probably should break it down to that.

I checked all the cables. When I power the machine up with everything connected, all the drives spin up, the fans work all the lights light up, it just doesnt give me any beeps or displays any video.

I've tried each ram stick in each slot, I've reset the battery, still nothing.

At this point I think I am at the point of RMA'ing the mobo and ram I would just hate to do so with out trying everything.

One question: Do you get the lights to turn on and fan to spin up? Do you get the post beep?

My friend gets all that, but the computer won't display video no matter what we try to do. His dad WAS going to have me do it, but decided to go with another guy to do it for him. It's been about a year and a half, and it's an AMD Quad-FX system *shudder*.

Anyway, is this the issue you're having? 'Cause it's either the RAM or the video card, from my experience.

Everything lights up on the mobo, hd spins up, dvd lights up, all the fans come on. I get no post on the screen, no video at all, and I get no error beeps. When I remove power from my vid card I get one long beep.

I can remove the memory and that doesnt seem to do anything. Either way the machine does not beep.

Like I said....the video card could be the issue, or the RAM. Try whatever you have lying around, or swap some stuff from another system.

Try clearing the CMOS again and make sure you follow the procedure in the MB manual.
