May take a while to download. Looks pretty kewl.

Click the link and set it aside for a while. Be patient. I don't have the fastest Internet connection in the world.

i wasn't awfully impressed actually playing it at Nvision
- there has been quite a buzz about this

are they going to release a demo?; i really don't care to watch videos

there has been a lot of buzz on it and it is released for PS3 and 360; it is an Unreal3 Engine game with the addition of a new lighting solution, developed by DICE.

Here is something interesting i found and i do NOT want to buy it before i try it:

By now you have probably heard the warning: Playing Mirror's Edge will make you vomit.

The hot new videogame is a sort of "first-person runner": You're a courier who travels across the rooftops of a locked-down, police-state city, delivering black-market messages by using acrobatic feats of parkour. You're constantly leaping over gaps 40 stories in the air, tightrope-walking along suspended pipes and vaulting up walls like a ninja.

It doesn't do justice to call the action in Mirror's Edge "intense": It quivers, like a hummingbird, and your first-person view is constantly whipsawing like a paranoid cameraman hunting for the best shot.

Only 15 minutes into the game, my mouth began overproducing saliva, and I had to pause the action for a few seconds to avoid carsickness. I would feel like a total lamer, but apparently even the Penny Arcade guys wrestled with nausea.

of course read the whole comment section; the review loves the physicality of the game and the sense of realism:

Mirror's Edge, in contrast, does something very subtle, but very radical. It lets you see other parts of your body in motion.

When you run, you see your hands pumping up and down in front of you. When you jump, your feet briefly jut up into eyeshot ? precisely as they do when you're vaulting over a hurdle in real life. And when you tuck down into a somersault, you're looking at your thighs as the world spins around you.

... the brilliant physicality of Mirror's Edge isn't just a boon to the game's physics. It also makes the narrative and drama more plausible.

So yes, by all means, I'll keep on playing Mirror's Edge, even though it occasionally makes me want to vomit. In the past, I've often wanted to retch because a game is so bad ? but I've never felt sick because it was so good

i gotta try it first

I guess I could see that happening. There is an awful lot of motion, and at high altitudes. So if you suffer from motion sickness or high anxiety, you might want to think twice, LOL.

all i want to do it try the demo .. before i commit myself with $50

it is a very bright and colorful game; very good looking! .. and you just run .. and run .. and run .. and jump .. and "timing" is crucial to success; you NEVER slow down or you lose momentum or you get caught
- no fighting really .. if you like jumping and running and combo jumps .. this is the game for you
--personally - up till now - i hated "jumping" games; Mirror's Edge will have to do much to convince me; i normally do not suffer from motion sickness

but i DO want to play with PhysX

Hmm, the camera-induced motion sickness thing would be kind of a big deal for me. Depending on the FPS, I'll either have zero motion sickness (any of the four UT games, Q3A, TF2, BF2) or severe motion sickness (HL2, Vampire:TMB).

apoppin - Didn't you just say that you did try it first, at nVision ? Well did you want to hurl after playing it?

I also have a severe fear of heights (as in, I get vertigo jumping off the top of CTF-Face in the UT games), so this is probably not the game for me, lol.

They did not allow us much time with it; just a couple of minutes .. and there is a reticule in the middle of the screen so you can focus on it to minimize motion sickness
--everything i saw was all on the rooftops and you can make some amazing leaps over the city; at the time they had someone guarding Mirrors Edge at Nvision so no one could take screen shots [of course i have 12x optical zoom on my digi-cam; but i didn't use the shots even though they were good ]

i cannot really comment based on a couple of minutes with it; that is why i NEED a playable demo of Mirror's Edge
- sometimes there is too much of a "good thing"

But you already did make several comments about the game. You were unimpressed by the few moments you had of gameplay. These are comments that only "could" be made after actually playing the game/demo for more than a few moments. Wait for the reviews. Actually, you could ask MarcVenice about it. He'll most likely be reviewing the game sooner than most i would think.

you are a Supreme Nitpicker; i ought to do the same thing back to you if i cared about your post's every detail

Yes, i was UNimpressed by all the jumping and running - and i already told you that i HATE jumping!
--i only personally took the controls for a couple of minutes

BUT i DID *watch* the rep play it; long enough to say i NEED a DEMO .. not a frigging review

. . . and yes, Marc works with me very closely at ABT; we do not necessarily agree on everything
- HIS review cannot not tell me if *I* will be sick playing it

Well, at least you said "Supreme" nitpicker. That must count for something. And, watching a rep play the game is akin to watching videos, which you say you don't care for. (continues nitpicking to retain title).

Actually, come to think of it, I didn't really have a problem playing through Portal without hurling, and that was also a platformer (and a fun one at that). Or did you hate that game too, apoppin?

Motion sickness aside, the game looks way too colourful , something like TF2 .

anyways, the physics effects look good.

But this reminds me of the early days of graphics, same is for physics.

Imagine how graphics have advanced these days, same could be done with physics within 5 years .

it does .. it is metaphysical with you and me

No, watching a rep over his shoulder is "not the same" as watching videos
- try asking a Video a question or ask 'it' to replay something for you

FINALLY, to quiet you down a bit:
[if it is possible]

i LINKED to a REVIEWER who says it is "known" that ME can cause motion sickness
--my conclusion stands for me - based on the evidence: i need a playable dem
... Nitpicks .. even your supreme ones are The Fail

take it as a PSA .. PhysX might be too much of a 'good thing' in ME
. . . caveat emptor and all that jazz

**************

.. Amber, i hated Portal

. . . and personally i do not think we will see PhysX mature for a few more years, if ever
.. we do not even know if it will get much support beyond Unreal Engine 3

A demo would be quite nice. Metaphysically speaking of course.

This is Video and the topic is PhysX, if you wish to discuss the merits of the gameplay, we have a separate forum for that.

I wonder how PhysX works out in this game. There's a demo on XBL though (for the Xbox360 obviously ), played it a bit, seems fine, smooth and all. I liked Portal more though, but then again this was a short demo only. I think I'll pick it up for my PC once it hits retail.

Mirror's Edge Demo @ Guru3D - Same video Keys is hosting, maybe faster dl speeds.

PR Blurb from NV/DICE:

"Faith's world in Mirror's Edge is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous; it is imperative that the gameplay reflect this level of urgency," said Owen O'Brien, Senior Producer at DICE. "NVIDIA PhysX technology affords us the ability to bring a totally new level of immersion to the game, and by doing so, gamers can truly become part of the world."

With the NVIDIA PhysX physics engine, the world of Mirror's Edge comes to life with real affects of wind, weapons impact, and in-game movements. Every-day objects within the game become part of the overall experience. Cloth, flags, and banners can now impact weapons and players; ground fog interacts with the player's footsteps; explosions fill the air with smoke and debris; and weapon impacts are enhanced with interactive particles.

On the PC, PhysX technology harnesses the power of CUDA(TM), NVIDIA's general-purpose, parallel-computing architecture, to handle 10-20 times more visual complexity than what's possible without a GeForce(R) CUDA-enabled GPU. And unlike competitors' solutions, which do not offer hardware-scaling capabilities, only PhysX technology leverages the best of both CPU and GPU architectures to deliver the ultimate, immersive, user experience. With over 100 million CUDA-compatible GeForce 8 Series and higher GPUs shipped to date, PhysX technology has the largest installed base of general-purpose, parallel-computing processors to run on.

"If you love intense combat scenes, fast-paced chases, and sky-high adventures then Mirror's Edge is the game for you," said Ujesh Desai, vice president of GeForce desktop business at NVIDIA. "Gamers will appreciate the greater freedom of movement, including sliding under barriers, tumbling, wall-running, and shimmying across ledges -- all within an environment that is dynamic and immersive, delivered in part by our PhysX technology."

The demo is pretty impressive but I'd like to see PhysX effects vs. non-PhysX/console version. I've got a feeling this game will be a new favorite for freelance FRAPs videos set to catchy pop music heh. Also curious if the delay in PC release is due to enhanced PhysX implementation or just the typical licensing/port red tape.
