You're gonna have to wait for official reviews.

But even at comparable performance, the newer stuff tends to age better. Go back to early 2012 to finds threads of discounted 570 vs 7850/7870. These cards were very comparable in 2012 - not anymore.

I would generally advise against buying the old. Until 490 and 1060 launch it would be best to either get a 480 or a 1070. Considering other older cards could leave you a sour taste in 2017 games with optimizations for the new and not the old.

not for me
i have many cards and many pcs

but price of the rx 480 can t be lower than gtx 970 (as amd said)

it s 199$ + tax for the 4gb version, so at least it s the same as gtx 970

yes, at the same price rx 480 is the best choice, but price can t be the same

with this cut,rx 480 is going to be more expensive (the opposite of what AMD said)

Nothing to cry about, as they have no control over economic conditions in your country, especially with the UK melting down.

Buy it or don't? Your choice.

(it s not for me)

but amd can t be competitive if they don t care about the real price.

here

- RX 480 8gb :325 EURO
- RX 480 4GB: not listed atm (but it s probably 30e less than 8gb)
- GTX 970: 225 EURO

GTX 580 used to be faster than a 7870:
https://tpucdn.com/reviews/AMD/HD_7850_HD_7870/images/perfrel_1920.gif

Today?

370 is an overclocked 7850, 270X is an overclocked 7870:
https://www.computerbase.de/thema/grafikkarte/rangliste/

Time is not kind to the old, especially if they have less VRAM.

For a ~1 year place holder sure, but what would you be waiting for since 1070 is here? Cheaper 1070/1080 after more AMD competition? The time for Nv 900 and AMD 300 series placeholders has ended, imo.

i think the same about old tech and vram importance, i have a titanx for my gaming pc and i m not going to sell it.(also if im going to try 1080 too)

but if you like tech, you want to know about other cards and what s the best deal on the market

rx 480 was supposed to be the best deal on mid-price, but atm ------> no

in my country GTX 970 ZOTAC had a price cut: 220 euro new

is there any chance for the RX 480 to beat it ?

This is tricky question and the answer is: Depends on who you ask.

Apparently radeon 290/x becoming free after 4 months and making money along the years was worse value for some than $330 3.5GB GTX970.

It is hard to offer better deal than that.

so the UK exiting out of a socialistic 'union' that forced them to take in a lot of welfare leechers and pay for failed countries while not getting their fair share back is a melt-down?

wow. it's a wake-up with short term negatives and long term gains if anything. look up the facts about the EU.

Wait for benchmarks. Then you can better determine if the performance is worth the price (for either option).

Dude where are u getting ur numbers from? RX 480 4GB should launch at $200 and 8Gb $230-250... not $300 like ursaying.... so uninformed!
Dont look at those pre-order prices... just wait another day or two and u get real prices.

US MSRP != EU prices for consumers including VAT and various fees

It seems unlikely that the 970 is 220 euro VAT included. Even in countries with a low VAT, wouldn't that be US$200 or less before tax?

That's the same for every other economy other than the US, except outside the US the Nvidia tax is magnified & multiplied. So in essence if you're paying 300$ or above, for a stock 480 with 4GB VRAM, you'll likely be paying at least 500$ for a 1070 with MSRP of $379. The price differential will only increase, everywhere outside of the US.

They stopped making 970/80's a bit back, so it's absolute stock clearance time.

Which is of course as good an indication that the 1060 isn't miles off as you'll get!
(If it was 3 months away say, NV would counter it like this. Rather effective too you'd think as it seems very unlikely to be very far ahead.).

Oh man you have literally all the wrong opinions, don't you? The only thing exiting the EU under their current sweetheart deal and staying in the eurozone gets them is disenfranchised.

Well yeah, but even in the US prices are around $250, a few bucks less with a MIR. EUR220 with Italy's 22% VAT would make that a hair under $200 pre-tax, which is something you don't see even with price-match coupon code MIR SlickDeals contortions, let alone an across the board price cut.

If EUR220 is the drive away price, that seems like an amazing deal. Obviously they're going to price the cards where they will move, and a 4GB RX 480 is going to be a better card than the GTX970, so you'd expect it to be so. I'm not sure I'd spend 34% more for a 4GB 480 than a 970 though if I was price conscious. Now, if a 4GB RX 470 launches at the same price as this GTX970, that would likely be a different story.

Vendors in Canada has already been listing RX 480's WAY beyond MSRP (1:1 considering exchange rate) but many has said the price is not final, what worries me is that they might be higher at release.

If I had to choose between GTX970 and RX480, I'd go for the full 4GB card without hesitation.
