New Printer Needed

My HP DeskJet 882C just went south on me. It was only 16 months old but, nonetheless, out of warranty. It worked fine and produced excellent finished products. So, now, I find myself in the market for a new printer. I know HP's are usually reliable. I probably am the exception. I'd appreciate your experiences with various printers, and maybe a good place to buy one at discount, online or otherwise. I'm thinking of the HP 970cse. Thank you.

Didn't much care for epsons way back when I first started messin with computers. They were just as flaky and prone to a quick death as a Canon.

Lot of things have changed since then, and I hear lots of good things about them, so maybe they have shaped up.

Have had or used MANY hps. There have been a few rotten eggs, but overall they have been bullet proof and damn good printers. I personally try to pick up the high end home/low end office models. The ones that usually retail for 200-300 and look all boxy compared to the fancy home ones. i am leary of the build quality of a printer that retails for less than 200.

I found my new Samsung 4500 Laser printer, come w/ CD/Printer cable/2 in one, drum and toner. ($199 at CompUSA) very fast and clear, after I got tired of replacing those expensive Lexmark inkjet cartridge .



p.s. if you really want the inkjet printer, I have Lexmark 3200 w/ 1200X1200 dpi resolution in good working condition. (except, ink cartridge all run out).

I have an Epson 870 & find it an excellent printer especially for photos.

Just recently bought a 970cse- Nice printer, fast (comapred to my old one=) and the two sided automatice printing is a nice plus too.

How long is the warrantee? If it's a year, did you buy it with a credit card? Does your credit card automatically add to the warrantee? Maybe it's still under your credit card's extended warrantee? Even if it's not, I would contact hp and complain and tell them that you will be buying another brand if they don't fix yours for free.

I would recommend the Xerox M750. I bought it about 2 weeks ago and love it. Got it at Staples with a pricematch and coupon for around $80, but I know a couple of the big name online computer sites had it at $99. It is fast--10 ppm black--quiet, and it has a good quality (1200x1200). Plus it's Xerox. The one drawback to it is that it is rather large. If you are tight on space, it might not be good for you. The major selling point for me is that it was front loading (like most HPs), rather than top loading. All the previous top loading printers I had before gave me lots of troubles.

The 970 is very good, but the 990 is even better (and more expensive). Check pcworld.com for reviews. Generally, HP and Epson are considered the best. It can be hard to get a deal on them - but I recently noticed discounts at hp.com itself!

The HP970Cse is a sweet printer and can be bought at Office Max for 249.99 right now. That is a steal! Not to long ago it was 399.99.

I've been looking for a printer too. You'll find a good review of HP and other printers here.

It is the 952 that is usually $250, I believe. The 970 is usually $300 and the 990 is $400.

Currently at buy.com the 990 is $375 (a price that is hard to beat), the 970 is $265 (maybe $235 elsewhere), and the 952 is hard to get at less than $250.
