I imagine Gamestop will do a $200 credit towards a 4.5 with trade in of 4 deal. They did something like that with the 360 slim and it was a god send to dump the failing Xenon model I had for less than the price of a full cost slim.

I was thinking they might do something like that myself.

I'm not sure why this "6-month" buy cycle keeps being thrown around. I don't know anyone that "upgrades" anything that quickly other than their hair cut.

Shoot, I don't even change my haircut that frequently. I think I'm a couple of days from a year on that front, and before that, it was almost 2.5 years.

If they do offer this deal this might be the first time I trade something in to GameStop.

I doubt it would be $200.
Yea I don't think it will be, people would flock over there to get it as soon as possible. They didn't even schedule a release date for the 4.5 so my guess is they will give you $100 by that time.

I have to wonder how online compatibility is going to work for multiplayer.

If the PSPoor version runs at 30fps, is the NEO version required to run at 30fps online also and just include some updated visuals/resolution.

Or is Sony going to allow 60fps and 30fps versions of the same game to compete in online multiplayer?

Its been stated in the article posted here a few pages back that the neo games will be required to run at a minimum fps as the ps4. Up to a max of 60 if you have the neo.

Neo will also run 1080p with better effects and maybe some better frame rate too I think it mentioned.

As for online, it will be the same for everyone. Only difference is neo will offer larger scale player zones. For example if the same game on ps4 has max of 6 players, neo will have the bandwidth to offer 8.

All this talk of new SKUs is interesting. Makes me a bit glad I haven't bought a current-gen console yet. Only two games will get me to buy a PS4, and neither one is out yet. At least Uncharted is hitting this month.

I personally don't see a planned short cycle hardware refresh working for consoles. As has been said, those in the know will realize it's just like a PC, and then go there instead.

At the same time, 4K is a thing, and if a console can't work with it, sales will likely drop. Last gen helped drive HDTV and blu-ray sales. This gen launched too weak to guarantee 1080p, let alone 1080p60, and is probably one of worst generations in recent memory. I think the companies know this, and want to move past this generation quicker.

I have a feeling that the vast majority of titles will be 1440p upscaled to 4K on the Neo (or 1080px2 for PSVR) and not much else.

At the same time, 4K is a thing, and if a console can't work with it, sales will likely drop.

That's one reason why they would do this upgrade. The PS4 as is doesn't support HDMI 2.0 or UHD BR.

I think 60fps 1080p would be "good enough". Forget 4k. What drives me up the wall is dragon age shoots for 30fps and dips into the low 20's much of the time.

Yes precisely and the witcher 3. Nearly unplayable at many instances.

Same boat for me. I was considering getting whatever Nintendo came out with since most of the Playstation / Xbox games I care about will come out on PC.

Both of these games have vastly superior pc versions.

That's because the consoles are pretty under-powered by PC standards. The PS4 is basically a 7850 and the Xbox is somewhere below that if I recall correctly.

It's pretty amazing that games can look as good as they do on those systems and still run decently, which sometimes they don't. Uncharted shows what you can do if you push that hardware to the limits of developer's ability, but expecting everyone to be able to do that is a bit much.

If the leaked specs are correct, I expect that 60 FPS at 1080p won't be a problem for most games for the next few years, but what does it mean for the original model, Lower graphical settings with 30 FPS @ 720p or something like that?

No way they can seriously try to do VR without bumping the specs up with the Neo.

Except a huge portion of games for console don't come out on PC. A game you want doesn't, Uncharted. You have terrible logic.

Just get both. You can play anything then.

For once I think we all agree.

you do know MS hinted this same thing for the BONE almost a month ago? This is all part of following the APPLE way. They are trying to get away from making "NEW" models. They want the PS4 to be like the IPAD or IPHONE (even windows 10 is doing this, there will be no more windows version after it (or so they say)). yes they upgrade them, but you still say you have a IPHONE or an IPAD, they want you to say you have a PS no matter the version. Its making your brand recognition stronger and still doing what you have all along. the PS4.4 is just the PS5, but with the marketing guys announcing it. Same as it ever was, just new people explaining it.

Still this is not confirmed but PS4 gamers will not be satisfy at that cost . Sony should think about it.

Guess what, it's a choice. Those buying a PS4 for the first time will get more for their money than currently. Those wishing to upgrade can. Those who don't, don't have to. They lose nothing. It's merely an option.

I have a gaming PC and plan on getting the PS4.5 on release. shit id buy a new one every year if they kept offering ones with better specs that worked with all the games.

400$ is nothing compared to what i spent on video cards or other rando comp items every year

But what if someone doesn't care about exclusives? I mean for every one uncharted game every 5 years or so there are 50 pretty bad exclusive titles or games that are only timed exclusive.

Your logic isn't much better, and some of your information is flat out wrong. My argument was about the general population, you're trying to use my specific use case as a counter. That's not how it works. You would have to show that generally, people buy consoles for the exclusives. A single exception does not break a general assumption.

A "huge" portion of games on any console are multi-platform. Take your Uncharted, Bloodbourne, etc., and compare that against the full library. It's not huge.

If we go by online numbers, games like CoD and FIFA dominate. Those are multi-plat games. They also have PC releases. If your typical online player finds themselves needing to buy a new console every 3-4 years as opposed to every 6-10, I think many will just migrate to PC instead. Higher up-front costs, upgrades only on an as-needed basis (and for 1080p, that's not very often), cheaper games overall, and no annual fee for online play.

What I want a console for is not what you want a console for. And if you'd seen many of my previous posts, I have been advocating chasing the games you want to play and playing how you like for a good long time. "Just get both." You even pointed out that I want Uncharted 4. I've stated I will get a PS4 in the past because of exclusives. What kind of ground shattering advice are you giving me that I haven't been saying myself for years?

And with all that, I still believe that generally, people will shift over to PC as a short-cycle console provides far fewer benefits over PC as the console investment goes up. Reality is that many people cannot afford multiple systems. It's why there are fanboys and petty arguments over 180 lines of resolution.

I mean, we do live in a world where Steamboxes are sold and nvidia will pre-configure a game's settings for you. There's more choice than ever, and PC is easier than ever to get into. Why wouldn't they shift?

Most people here may have the new system and a PC but the general average consumer usually decides between one or the other.

Sure there will be some people upset that recently got the ps4 and wishes they had waited. But if they have some decent trade deals many would gladly upgrade.

Sure there are shitty exclusives. Same for the PC. There already games each way that the other side doesn't have. His argument was just get a PC instead. It's a bad argument. My belief is to get whichever has more of the games you want. If possible, get more than one option. I myself have 3, PC, PS4, and Wii.
