Your logic isn't much better, and some of your information is flat out wrong. My argument was about the general population, you're trying to use my specific use case as a counter. That's not how it works. You would have to show that generally, people buy consoles for the exclusives. A single exception does not break a general assumption.

A "huge" portion of games on any console are multi-platform. Take your Uncharted, Bloodbourne, etc., and compare that against the full library. It's not huge.

If we go by online numbers, games like CoD and FIFA dominate. Those are multi-plat games. They also have PC releases. If your typical online player finds themselves needing to buy a new console every 3-4 years as opposed to every 6-10, I think many will just migrate to PC instead. Higher up-front costs, upgrades only on an as-needed basis (and for 1080p, that's not very often), cheaper games overall, and no annual fee for online play.

What I want a console for is not what you want a console for. And if you'd seen many of my previous posts, I have been advocating chasing the games you want to play and playing how you like for a good long time. "Just get both." You even pointed out that I want Uncharted 4. I've stated I will get a PS4 in the past because of exclusives. What kind of ground shattering advice are you giving me that I haven't been saying myself for years?

And with all that, I still believe that generally, people will shift over to PC as a short-cycle console provides far fewer benefits over PC as the console investment goes up. Reality is that many people cannot afford multiple systems. It's why there are fanboys and petty arguments over 180 lines of resolution.

I mean, we do live in a world where Steamboxes are sold and nvidia will pre-configure a game's settings for you. There's more choice than ever, and PC is easier than ever to get into. Why wouldn't they shift?

It is much better. Those "in the know" will just by PC's? That argument has been around forever. I personally prefer PC's. I enjoy building them, designing watercoolng, and the freedom they give you. But I'm not oblivious to the fact that a lot of very good games don't come out on them. While the hardware is more like a computer than ever before, it doesn't change the fact there are still exclusives. Other than an emulator I have never played a Mario game on the computer. Likely never will. Your assumption people will just convert to PC's because of a "short" lifespan is silly. For a long time I upgraded video cards every 6 months, that's short. Not 3 years. And people don't have to get the newer version if it comes out. Theirs will still play just as advertised. Every new game will work on it, at least that is the information we're being given now. My opinion would change if that is not the case.

It's an option, one I'm glad for. I realize it won't be a huge jump and 4K gaming will be very limited. Just like it is on the PC. I'm thankful for the advancement. Might even be smaller, quieter, etc. Consoles have had new versions for years, just not new hardware.

I don't recall seeing any previous posts so I'm not aware of your posting habits. To me it's just silly complaining about an option that does nothing but benefit the people who want it.

Sure there are shitty exclusives. Same for the PC. There already games each way that the other side doesn't have. His argument was just get a PC instead. It's a bad argument. My belief is to get whichever has more of the games you want. If possible, get more than one option. I myself have 3, PC, PS4, and Wii.

I have all the current consoles except the WiiU. I didn't want to miss on games but I did find that most of them were terrible lol. My bad luck I guess there. For someone who can't do that it's harder to decide unless you have a group of friends or relatives who are on one platform vs another and you want to go online with them. Many people don't like Forza or Halo, many people aren't really interested in Uncharted and the other couple of Sony exclusives available now. For them a PC might be a fine option with more longevity to it.

I used to be a hardcore PC gamer but then got tired of keeping up with the new hardware, games not always running correctly without tweaks, the average person aka your friends are more likely to game on console not on PC, being able to sit back on the couch and just start the console and go and relax, gaming on PC is not good for the wrists. The last video card I bought for my PC was $400, just for the card. I got tired of it and now I'm not missing much said for a few PC exclusives that I care about. I just got really tired of the overall PC game playing experience.

Well almost every game now supports Xbox controllers natively, you have lots of options for playing on the couch now. Software that automatically adjust game settings for you. It's very easy for people to start, easier than ever in fact. If someone was on 1080p they could easily get away without updating for longer than the ps4 is going to last before the new model releases. I know a few people fed up with the remakes on the consoles and are building pcs again this year. Like I said it can be a fine option for people willing to look into it.

Playing a multi-player game with a controller compared to a keyboard/mouse means you'll get murdered, plus I just don't have time dealing with issues that always come up with PC gaming.

I was thinking of upgrading my PC but seeing how I got my GPU shortly after it was released and I paid $500 for it, the only really good game I enjoyed on PC was witcher 3 which I still need to finish. Besides that I played some games here and there but not as much. My PC is still a beast for what inuse it for now but console is just a lot easier if you get lazy.

I'm right there with you. I was a hardcore PC gamer/builder, it's what brought me to this site 10 years ago and what got me into IT and now Software Development. I don't enjoy dicking around with PCs anymore and after 8+ hours of sitting in front of my computer for work every day I just want to chill on the couch and play some games. I still get annoyed with trying to play any sort of shooting game with a controller, but I'm learning to deal with it.

I can agree with the sitting in front of a PC for 8+ hours programming. I rarely touch my desktop when I get home. Most people will say you can move your PC to the living room to game but I don't have the space to do that. So in a way on a console its easier.

Well, you can also make mini-ITX builds stronger and smaller than a console, so if you have room for the XB1, you should certainly have room for such a PC.

What keeps me from putting my PC in the living room is that I want to use it in my bedroom, and I don't spend too much time in the living room, unless I want to watch TV. I think I'd sooner move my XB1 to the living room and stream games to my PC when I want to play in the bedroom.

PC master race in my console forums?

I do hope a new PS4 comes around and is discounted. I still haven't gotten once since I sold my launch edition the week of launch. There are some games I wouldn't mind picking up.

Lol @ this.

I work in software. . I no longer use PCs, laptops or tablets at home. I check email on my phone sometimes but that is about it. I relax via ps4 and that's about it for tech.

Yea I do the same with the ps4. Recently I've had my father come visit and he's always watching news. If I want to use either console I just stream it directly to my desktop monitor.

I sit in front of a PC for work, and I have no qualms with doing so at home either. It probably helps that the work PC is a slow piece of garbage ("Do you even SSD, bro!?"), so using my PC at home is actually kind of cathartic in a way. I think it's also because I don't see a PC as strictly a gaming machine. However, I do have use an HTPC on the TV in my living room and the one in my bedroom, and I do sometimes use those more like normal PCs. Heck, I've written posts on this forum from both of those locations.

Talking about not sitting in front of a PC and wanting to relax on the couch? I can do that with my PC on my tv. I actually use my 4K tv as a monitor now and don't even use my catleap anymore.

Guess what, it's a choice. Those buying a PS4 for the first time will get more for their money than currently. Those wishing to upgrade can. Those who don't, don't have to. They lose nothing. It's merely an option.

yes you are right this will be good option but Sony should give discount to new buyers of PS4 because there are many options available to buy at affordable price.

I''m sure the PS4.5 will just be priced like the old Xbox elite and the regular one will stay at $350 or maybe go down to $300 at the most. Let us not forget though that Sony's #1 this generation. Their closest competitor is being outsold 2 to 1 and Sony is under far less pressure to cut into profit margins for the sake of a low price point compared to Say... Microsoft. (I would say Nintendo too, but they just don't care any more)

I'm speculating the old one goes down to $300 the new one will be $399 or the old one drops from $350 to $300.

It could happen. But Sony just lowered it from $400 to $350 a few months ago so it might be a bit.

The new system doesn't even have a release date. If they want to sell it for $400 they will need to lower the price of the old system. Unless they are saying this 4.5 system will be starting at $499, then they can keep the old one at $350 for some time.

We finally have confirmation on the upgraded PS4.

Sony has finally acknowledged that it is indeed building a more powerful version of the PlayStation 4, as*Kotaku*first reported*in March. PlayStation chief Andrew House*told the*Financial Times*that the codenamed Neo is “intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4" and that “”We will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle.” The console will not be shown at E3.

I wonder how much more the Neo will go for over the current model. If it's within $100, I will bite.

Probably 100-150 more seeing as it's a gpu upgrade. If I can get something for my current ps4 I will get one as well. If they want to sell it for $400 they have to lower the price of the current ps4.

It's not a very major upgrade to be honest.

Probably should have waited until 2017 like Microsoft and Nintendo and score some Polaris.
