There is another thread going right now that talks about no advantage unless the cpu and heatsink are both done. Not the expert in any of this but I'd say do your stock and OC temp reads and see how good/bad they are and go from there

Yeah, I saw that. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm definitely going to check out my temps unlapped, and then make my decision from there. I really hope the rest of my parts come in tomorrow so I can build the damn thing .

I just built my machine last night. I did not lap. Scythe ninja heat sink. 36c idle 47 load. At 3.2g, 48 idle, 60 load. 12005 3dmark score.

As for games in vista 64... Beautiful. No problems so far. Even older games are running well. There are also a few fixes for 64bit at MS website, cant remember where. They address frame rates etc. You will find a few issues, but nothing you would not expect with a new OS. I have a Roeswill card reader, that is just not working. And Mcafee is stubborn as well, to the point of not installing. Thats about it though. Oh, yea, you will have some trouble running Core temp, but there are some fixes.

I'd say that anything up to 1.4v is fine with a G0 as long as you have adequate cooling to deal with the temperatures caused by such a high voltage. Past that you're looking at water cooling and still a shortened life of the chip.

As for stability, you trust nothing. A stable system is one that you can't crash, period. If any test is failing, then the system isn't stable.

Thanks for the response Virge. Well, I just reseated my TR-U120 E and I realized I had too much Arctic Silver on my original application. So I redid it and I also changed the direction of the heat sink so it now blows air out through the back of my case. Between the front and the back of my case I have 4 120mm fans blowing in a straight line through my TR-U120 E. 2 of those are Scythe S-Flex SFF21F fans and the other 2 are the Antec fans that came with my 900 case. Still not sure if my temps are much better than they were and right now I'm considering lapping my heat sink. I'm running prime95 and my core temps are 68,68,62,62 at 3294 MHz (9.0 x 366.0). I'm running at 1.44Vcore, however.

Another thing, how hot does the Thermalright Ultra 120 normally feel when you touch it under load? Mine only gets a bit warm, nothing extremely hot. I'm worried that it's not removing enough heat from the IHS on the processor.

I am at 390x9 (3510) and 1.36 vcore and running 53-55c. One Silenx fan for tr120 (lapped) aqnd one 120mm case fan, thats it.

Is that with your Q6600 in your sig? Also, what is your VID? Mine is 1.3250. And did you also have to lap the IHS on your processor? The CPU temp my mobo reports is 56C under load right now.

Here is a screen shot @ full load for at least 24 hours straight (finished the F@H unit)

Yes, the Q6600 in my sig. I just changed power supplies as 3,5 was not stable, but it looks like it is now, so I may go back up to 3.6. My vid is 1.275 as you can see in the picture. I got the Lapped 120 from SVC.com (didn't do it myself), but the cpu was not touched. I saw several posts of 120 extremes that were not flat, so I took no chances. $134 shipped with the SilenX fan. Worth it to me. Also with the DQ6, due to the stable voltages, you can run with less vcore.

Just found out that my TRU120 mounting bracket is missing the silicone washer in the center. I am able to rotate the heat sink while it's mounted. I think I need to get a washer.

I can rotate mine also, but I don't think it matters. Maybe its the lapping.

I think I'm going to do both today, lap it and add a washer to ensure enough pressure is applied. Now I just have to look at different lapping techniques and decide on one and how high grit I want to use. I hear anything beyond 800 is pointless, except if you want a mirror finish.

BTW, been running solid in Prime95 for over an hour now and temps haven't budged. I'm still not happy about running Vcore at 1.44 though.

Thats simply amazing temps. I am sitting back in disbelief, seriously. i wish I had your chip.

My e6850 and q6000 G0 are both in an Antec 900 case. I switched the top blig fan to blow air inside and I swear it raised my temperatures. Hummm. I am using a Tunic Tower and I am also considering lapping but honestly it seems like a lot of work for it to drop a few c.

New Nvidia drivers came out on the 28th probably someone mentioned already. Anyhow they are supposed to provide better Bioshock performance amongst other games as well. Might be only in SLI but I think it applies across the board.

Well, I'm lapping my Thermalright Ultra 120 right now and I'm strongly considering lapping my Q6600 as well. Anyone think I should wait about 30 days? I want to get the best temps possible with my hardware right now and I figure I might as well get it over with.

do the HSF, then see what the temps are. Thats all I did to mine.

Yeah I just finished lapping the TRU120. I'm going to go ahead and put it back together and test it out. I'll let you know what the temps are.

Currently running Prime95 for about 10 minutes now and all cores have dropped in temp between 7 and 10 C! I'm running at 1.44Vcore and my temps are all below 60 on load.

The Q6600 is not flat, if you're going to lap the HSF you should be lapping the processor too.

Well my temps are definitely lower. I will most likely be lapping the processor sometime in the next couple of weeks. I have a lot of work to do.

Your CPU dropped 7-10 C ?! Thats amazing consider you only lapped the heatsink. From the threads I been reading the biggest drop of temperature are come from lapping the IHS. This G0 core is really full of potential.

What lapping tools did you used btw? Finest sandpaper that I can find are the 400 grit from the local home depot. Where do you guys found those 600-2000 grit ones?

I used 280 grit... Its if the HSF is not flat.

I actually went to 3 different places trying to get all the different grades of sandpaper I needed. I bought some 1500 grit from a local auto parts store (AutoZone). I got a pack that had some 220, 320, and 400 grit from Wal-mart, and I got some 600 grit from Home Depot. I lapped in a back and forth manner and I rotated the heat sink 90 degrees every 30 passes across the sand paper. I had the sandpaper taped on some glass I had, and I added water to the sand paper when I felt there was too much friction. I also had some dish soap on the bottom of the heat sink.

Is using F@H enough of a stress test for the CPU? Currently running 3402 MHz (378x9) at 1.408Vcore. Cores are at 55,52,50,50 currently.
