it also increases gas mileage significantly by slowing down just a little:

80 to 70 gives around a 25-30% increase in gas mileage in a Patriot, for instance.

I don't think using a brick is the perfect example. Yeah...for this, of course driving slower will get better milage...might as well throw it off a cliff with a tail wind to help. It's got a Cd of .40...

Graph shape is pretty similar for most cars, actually. At this point it should be in a different thread though.

Hey everyone.. i've been a looong time Escort Passport owner - I've had 3 over the past 13 years.

My 9500i gave up the ghost and I feel vulnerable without those familiar red lights on the windshield.

One of the best features it had was the ability to mute using a button on power cord at the cigarette lighter.

Does Valentine offer something like that? I don't think i'd like to have to reach up everytime it goes off while driving through the parking lot at the stripmall.
You need the concealed display to mute away from the V1.

I can't answer your question about a radar detector, but I would like to throw in the obligatory "slowing down has benefits" comment. Aside from being safer and saving you money from potential tickets, it also increases gas mileage significantly by slowing down just a little:

So what you are trying to say is...stay away from Jeep Patriots?

When the f*ck did Garage turn into P&N?

Love the arrows and bogey counter of the Valentine, but it does have more false positives, though it doesn't bother me in Dallas. Usually look out for Ka and have it set to mute (can see it out of the corner of my eye).

The chart applies to any vehicle. Driving faster increases wind resistance exponentially and causes gas mileage to plummet. The cost of driving is probably a non-concern to many on here though.

No one gives a sh!t. I sure don't. Just stay in the right lane, that's all you need to do.

+1 for the V1.

If you have an Android phone, get the bluetooth connector and run YaV1 to help filter out the false positives if they bother you.

I'm curious what the best solution for a fixed installation radar detector / laser jammer is. I've gotten the impression the escort jammer is outdated and most people love laser interceptor but it would be nice if the systems actually worked together. It also seems like escort has been refreshing their modular radar detectors but we've been sitting on the 9500ci for years.

I've been looking at the Escort Passport Max2. You can link it to your phone.

I have the 9500IX ... not a bad unit, but the Valentine is said to be more sensitive and has the arrows to indicate which direction the police or radar signal is from. Some of the newer units from Escort are also more immune to detection by radar detector detectors. Only issue with the Valentine, is it is bulkier and (to me) does not quite look as nice as it could.

I question the accuracy of the arrows because radar bounces.

The Escort Redline has shown to outperform the Valentine in most radar tests (depends on the frequency).

I thought the only detector that's detector-detector-proof is the Bell STi Driver?

After research I might just spring for the Bell STiR since it integrates with the ALP jammer.

I bought a Laser Interceptor awhile back, haven't gotten around to having it installed yet though. Much more money and much different in how it works. But it seems like the only full proof way to speed without getting caught, err I mean detect cops. My roommate has one in his car and I've been in it when it does it thing - pretty freaking sweet.

Doesn't it double-up as a backup sensor as well?

I am a V1 guy due to the increased directional awareness, but if you hate false positives, an Escort might be a better choice, though you can also integrate the V1 with an android app to reduce the false positives as well now.

I dont think Ive ever had a FP, I have had the Leakey detector near me which it then gives "J" for junk but every time I was able to place a cop to Ka signal.

Sure there are some times(rarly) when I dont see them exactly when I pass but there are some explanations (Under an overpass, Other side of the road(direction) ..

But the V1 continues to work very well, I was rushing to a place and doing somewhat over the speed limit and passed a cop my V1 said nothing and the Cop did nothing. This has happened a handful of times.

In that case, the cop was probably using instant on radar, and his visual observation of your speed thought you were not going fast enough to bother clocking.

If he was using Instant On I would have a least got a blip. Im telling you I pass by cops sitting on the side doing nothing.

Yes, you would, if he clocked another vehicle ahead of you. There is also a distinct possibility that the police had a Laser unit. You can tell if he is holding the unit up near eye level to aim it. And lasers, thankfully, can not be used in a moving patrol car (maybe in the future, but not now)
