New Radeon drivers out...

Just saw over @ Rage3D that there are some new Radeon drivers out..

Omega/Plutonium xk1.1.07 driver for Windows 2000 and XP only supports the following radeon family devices:


- Radeon 7000 / VE / IGP320
- Radeon 7200 / SDR / DDR
- Radeon 7500
- Radeon 8500 / LE / LELE
- All in Wonder Radeon SDR / DDR
- All in Wonder Radeon 7500
- All in Wonder Radeon 8500dv
- All in Wonder Radeon 8500 (128mb)
- Mobility Radeon
- Mobility Radeon 7500
- all other powered by ati radeon devices



this driver is based on ati's unreleased 6107 beta driver which requires directx 8.1 to be installed. this driver is unsupported by ati, do not contact them for support, use the support link at the side of this page.



New (Omega/Plutonium XK1.1.07):


* Fixed many installation problems, especially with Radeon 7500's.
* Windows 2000 support has been added back.
* All the features of XK1.0.71b, using the 6107 Catalyst Drivers.

Well, it's really up to you to decide if they are worth it, but I like them. They basically take ATI's latest BETA's and optimize them. They also add quite a few goodies, and the install program is a breeze. For instance, these drivers add several new tabs to the display properties that are not enabled in the ATI's ones. The package also comes with some nice utillities built in that make it a breeze to tweak the card. Things like including a program like Artifact Tester 2.0 to make sure that o/c is a stable one, a refresh lock utility, and a easy to use o/c utility are a nice touch IMO. I use their drivers in conjunction with the latest version of the Rage3D Tweak program for full control over my Radeon cards.


If you don't want to try the Omega drivers, the BETA 6102 Catalyst's can be found here. These are newer than the official 6094 "Catalysts", but not as new as the 6107 version the Omega's are based on. I have not seen the 6107's available to download seperately yet though...

I just did a fresh install and saw these drivers were out so I'm giving them a spin right now. I have had a 500 increase in 3dmark, but I'm sure that's mostly due to the fresh system.

I'll let everyone know if Omega has finally killed off the AvP2 bug yet. I'm hoping...I hate using Rage3d Tweak every time I run the damn game.

I did a benchmark with my last drivers.(6094) And then I installed these. I got a little over 1000 points higher. I like .

When it says "mobility Radeon", it wouldn't be referring to my Dell notebook's "mobility Radeon" by any chance?

Isn't that a rather specific driver d/l that needs to (probably never) be optimized by Dell?

It should work fine, unless Dell uses a custom bios for it. I would give it a try and see if it works...the driver program looks for compatible hardware before it will install anything, so it will either work or not...

I installed it and then rebooted.
Got a control panel error...ok... run 3dmark200SE and it rebooted my computer. Arghhhh

I then reboot the OS again just to make sure I don't get that error on boot up again. Ran 3dmark and Quake 3 timedemo fine now. Both benchs improved. a 100 points in 3dmark2k1SE and 1 frame in quake 3.

I then played an Hour of War craft 3, looks good except for the intial problem.

I installed them too,played some " The sum of all fears " and all is fine. they look good to me.

I'm sticking to the latest official ATi drivers.. when going from one of the betas (this was before Catalyst) to Catalyst drivers I noticed a 277 point increase in 3DMark. I think I'm satisfied with that..

oh FYI I'm only running a Radeon LE @ 166mhz w HyperZ etc on a Duron @866. no tweaker was used, but settings in the drivers were to highest quality.

I think Dell does use a custom bios - does anyone know for sure?

When I d/l'ed from Dell, I never have to uninstall anything - just add the new driver package. It's more simple (and custom) than with my desktop Radeon drivers.

Well I tried them but even when I use this guide to uninstall and install the drivers Windows XP still automaticaly installs a driver which is not the one I want to install.How do I disable the $%^&$%&$^ auto driver install in XP?

It took me 40 minutes on dial-up and I still have no idea if I should even TRY it with my Dell Inspiron 4100 Notebook's Mobility Radeon. I am not looking forward to a reformat as everything is working so perfectly.

As for Win XP not installing the drivers you want, Challenger, can't you install it from Device Manager, Driver Update? (I can't check it since I let my XP expire on the second partition without activating it since I plan to sell it with my desktop when I upgrade).

Installed them on my AIW 7500 Retail...they are very nice. I haven't tried them on my 8500 yet though...
