New Radeon Drivers released

ATI has the new Catalyst drivers up.

These drivers include a completely new set of Direct3D and OpehGL Panels, as well as new version of Hydravision, Multimedia Center, and Remote Center.

These are suppose to be a total re-write of the Direct3D & OpenGL drivers. The new tabs allow for some serious tweakage.

Thet next ones covers OpenGL, the first 'Catalyst' drivers primarily focus on DirectX... the underlying OpenGL support is only slightly modified. They've already done the nroad changes to all of the driver panels/options though.
They really opened it up to allow you to tweak quite allot.
More so then ATi had previously allowed or other manufacturers allow without a third party utility.

I hope to god they fixed the refresh issue with it. Can someone confirm this, for example if your change the color settings and reboot will they stick or reset to default ?

What cards do these drivers support? Are they worth the download? ATI's OpenGL patch rock's, will I still need that with these on an 8500?

Support all Radeon graphics cards.

ATi's SMARTGART has the potential to be the biggest addition to the new Catalyst drivers. Whether it turns out to be effective in practice is unknown but it certainly seems to have potential to save end users from allot of stability headaches.

Hopefully they'll stick with releasing drivers faster than they did before...

Remember when they made the statement of releasing more drivers instead of once or twice every year? They did do it, but reverted back to their old self and stopped doing it because "people were hacking and abusing" their drivers. doh!

anyone else get that "INF ERROR" CAN"T FIND VIDEO DRIVER ? my all in wonder radeon isn't being able to update to these drivers.

I did download that. I downloaded the catalyst drivers, the wdm drivers and the MM7.7 and couldn't get the drivers to install.

try expanding the archives to a folder and installing them from there.

That made me chuckle too, but there is a lot more to improved drivers than benchmarks, like stability and taking care of issues with certain games/apps., and hopefully they have taken care of some with the new drivers.

Jeez,

Got the drivers this morning.
Tested Jedi Knight 2 so far, gained 3 FPS. Have yet to do 3dmark.

Second game I tried, GTA3...

Runs well at 1600x1200 BUT everything gets all foggy and I can't see anything after about 1min in the game. This happens every time.

People, I need to be able to play GTA3...AND I CANT! what to do? anyone have similar problems?

If you notice during play in GTA3, it changes from day to night then foggy and sometimes foggy rain. I think it was intended to play that way to challenge the player. When it gets foggy, you need to drive by watching the lower left map and also look for brake lights ahead.

ugh I've played MANY hours of GTA3, its apparently a 'thing' with the new drivers enabling Fog parameters.

Thanks to Ichneumon at rage3d. These steps worked for me:


open the tweaker
goto the Rage3D Tweak tab
open the 3D DirectX category
Click on table Table Fog, W Fog, and Z Fog tweaks until there is a green box around them and NO check mark by them. Then hit apply. (after you hit apply the green outline goes away, green just means you have changed it since you last applied settings).

Once you've set those 3, and made sure that there is no check mark (and no red box) by the "Enable W Buffer" tweak, your GTA3 should work ok for you.
